Villecresnes offers cultural and natural attractions that can be given different emphasis when planning a stay. The Église Notre-Dame tells a story of architecture spanning several centuries; the Forêt de Grosbois, the Réveillon and La Végétale offer other ways to explore wildlife, walking and cycling. There is also a municipal swimming pool and a bus service linking Villecresnes with Créteil-Préfecture and Brie-Comte-Robert.

Culture across several centuries

The Église Notre-Dame is protected as a historic monument; it was listed by decree on January 21, 1987. Its main construction phases date to the 12th, 13th, 16th and 19th centuries. Rather than focusing on a single period of construction, the church reflects an architectural history with several clearly defined phases. For culture enthusiasts, this span of time is a useful starting point for placing the church in the town’s history.

It is also worth distinguishing between the names of the other historic buildings. The square-plan Pigeonnier de Villecresnes is a remnant of the 18th-century Château de Cerçay. The structure is privately owned; passers-by can view it from Rue de Brunoy. The Château de Villecresnes is a different historic building: it was built in the 17th century.

Forest, water and trails

The Forêt de Grosbois covers more than 148 hectares and combines old trees, diverse wildlife and opportunities to observe racehorse training. More than 70 bird species have been recorded there. To the east, a nature area provides a free habitat for reptiles and amphibians. The natural environment therefore encompasses more than birdlife, including habitats for other animal groups as well as horse training.

The Réveillon and La Végétale offer different ways to enjoy outdoor activities. The Réveillon is a watercourse more than 21 kilometres long that crosses Villecresnes from northeast to southwest, offering walks in natural surroundings. La Végétale, by contrast, is a 20-kilometre greenway between Créteil and Santeny; Villecresnes is one of the eight municipalities along its route. It is suitable for walks and bike rides. You can choose between a watercourse within the town and a greenway with two named endpoints as different points of reference. La Végétale also features guided walks, workshops and an educational farm.

Swimming pool and bus service

For exercise beyond walking and cycling, the municipal swimming pool offers another option. It has an Olympic-size pool, a relaxation area, a teaching pool and a splash pad. Opening arrangements may change, so check them before your visit if you are planning to make the pool a fixed part of your itinerary.

Bus route 423 connects Créteil-Préfecture with Brie-Comte-Robert and serves Villecresnes at ten stops. For planning your journey, both the connection between the two towns and the stops within Villecresnes are relevant. Check the route, stops and timetable before travelling, as routes and service patterns may change.
