Saint-Point-Lac offers several ways to enjoy a stay by Lac de Saint-Point: trails lead to the shore and up to the surrounding heights, while Église Saint-Point and local cheese add cultural and culinary dimensions. The lake lies at an elevation of nearly 850 m and stretches for more than 6 km. Depending on whether you want to focus on the landscape, architectural history or products of Franche-Comté, you can choose different priorities for your trip.
Lake and landscape
Lac de Saint-Point and its shores are part of the Site Inscrit “LAC SAINT-POINT AUX GRANGETTES”. The protected landscape also extends to Saint-Point-Lac, among other places. This means the landscape designation covers not only the water but also the shoreline. The elevation of nearly 850 m and the lake’s length of more than 6 km give an idea of its scale and that of its surroundings.
Circular trails and views
The Tour du Lac de Saint-Point circular trail can be started in any village on the lakeshore. Its described route continues from Les Grangettes to Saint-Point-Lac. The Tour du Lac de Saint-Point circular trail No. 24 also climbs to the heights of Saint-Point-Lac, from where you can look out over Lac de Saint-Point. You can therefore choose between following the route along the lake and enjoying the view from above as different ways of experiencing the landscape. As trail access may change, check conditions before setting out.
Another option is the Ronde des 2 Villages. It passes near Église Saint-Point. The two trail names thus offer different points of interest: the Tour du Lac is connected with the lake and its lakeside villages, while the Ronde des 2 Villages focuses on the area around the church.
Beaches and water activities
There are two developed beaches on Lac de Saint-Point, supervised in summer. As supervision arrangements may change, check the current situation before your visit if needed. Non-motorized water sports are permitted on the lake; check the applicable local regulations before taking part in an activity.
Le Spot du Lac Saint Point rents out electric boats that can be operated without a licence on Lac de Saint-Point. This option is distinct from the rules for non-motorized water sports. Offers and availability may change. If you plan to rent a boat, check the latest information in advance.
Church history and village character
Different construction periods can be distinguished at Église Saint-Point: the nave dates from the 12th century, while the side chapels were built in 1480. The church is listed as a historic monument. These two dates give the building a long history without placing the chapels and nave in the same period.
Another historic landmark in the village centre is the Fromagerie de Saint-Point-Lac. It was built in 1849–1850, placing its construction in a different period from the dated parts of Église Saint-Point. Together, the two buildings offer different ways to explore the village’s history: the church, with its medieval sections and chapel dating from 1480, and the historic Fromagerie from the 19th century.
Comté and other products
Fromagerie Michelin in Saint-Point-Lac is a cheese dairy with a shop and offers three varieties of Comté. The shop also sells other AOC cheeses from Franche-Comté, as well as butter, cream, yoghurt, jams and confectionery. Its selection also includes Jura wines, liqueurs, apple juice, Klaus chocolate and charcuterie. Those interested in regional products will find not only Comté here but also a selection across several product categories, from dairy products to drinks and confectionery.
