Émagny offers several ways to shape a stay: the history of the former village, a footpath along the Ognon and nearby Château de Moncley. If you’re looking for a holiday rental, consider whether local history, a château visit or activities on the river should be the main focus of your trip.

Émagny and Pin: a shared history

Historically, Émagny and Pin formed a single village called Pin l’Émagny. In 1789, the Ognon became the natural boundary between the Doubs and Haute-Saône departments, separating Émagny from Pin. The river is therefore also connected with a change in the area’s history. Émagny’s history is also closely linked to Bellefontaine.

The Domaine du château de Moncley

The protected Domaine du château de Moncley also includes land parcels in Émagny. The estate has different levels of protection: parts are classified as historic monuments, while additional parcels in Émagny are registered as historic monuments. The protected property includes buildings and courtyards, as well as the park, kitchen garden and orchard. The access avenue, boundary and retaining walls, the gateway, the underground areas beneath the parterre and the remains of a former château are also included.

A full tour of Château de Moncley is possible, covering around fifteen preserved and furnished rooms. If this visit is an important part of your plans, check the current visiting arrangements in advance. This helps distinguish an interest in the interiors from the broader history of the protected estate.

On foot, by bike or fishing

The voie verte in Émagny is a family-friendly footpath along the banks of the Ognon. La Ligne des escargots is designated for cycling tourism, hiking and mountain biking. These two options cater to different kinds of activity: a riverside route on foot and a route designated for three types of use. If you choose your outings mainly according to the activity you have in mind, you’ll find different options here.

Fishing is also an option on the Ognon. In Émagny, there is a fishing stretch managed by the AAPPMA de la Vallée de l’Ognon, with an area for night carp fishing. Before fishing, check the current local rules and access conditions, as these may change.

Parking is available at Place des Tilleuls in Émagny for the La vallée de l’Ognon et l’Abbaye de Bellefontaine circular route. Parking information may change, so check it before your visit. This information refers to a parking option for the circular route, not to where the route starts or ends.

An open-air concert

Every year, Château de Pin hosts a public open-air concert by the Orchestre d’Harmonie de Pin-Emagny, featuring light and sound effects. If you’d like to plan your trip around it, check the current programme and concert dates. Together with the history of Pin l’Émagny and the Ognon, this offers another cultural point of interest when choosing a stay in Émagny.
