Explore Malbuisson through its different highlights: Lac de Saint-Point, trails for walking or on snow, and the architectural history of Saint-Claude Church. The lake is France’s third-largest natural lake. Information about route lengths and seasons provides practical guidance.

Beaches and activities on the lake

Malbuisson’s beaches are very easy to reach from the town centre. Plage des Landes is one of the municipality’s two largest beaches. So, alongside views of the lake, there is a specific beach you can take into account when planning your trip. There are also four water sports centres around Lac de Saint-Point. Activities available there include catamaran sailing, windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, canoeing, kayaking and pedal boating. These centres may operate seasonally.

Bateaux du Lac Saint-Point offers one-hour narrated boat trips. A leisurely cruise between the eastern and western shores is also available. An hour on the water is a clearly defined part of your day’s itinerary. Schedules and booking options may change; check both in advance.

Walking trails and winter routes

The 23 km walking trail for pedestrians forms a loop around Lac de Saint-Point. A shorter hike is the 8.3 km route to Fort de Saint-Antoine, which passes through the forests and meadows of the municipality of Malbuisson. During this hike, you can stop to discover the local Frutière cheese dairy, where Comté is made. If you plan to stop there, check access to the cheese dairy separately in advance. The loop is just under three times as long as the route to the fort.

The 6 km “En revenant par le fort” route changes activity with the seasons: in summer, it is a hiking trail; in winter, a marked snowshoe route. Conditions may affect whether it can be used in winter, so check them in advance if you plan to take the snowshoe route. The 14 km La Fuvelle cross-country ski trail is different: it is the largest cross-country ski trail in the area and is intended for experienced skiers. Its seasonal availability depends on snow conditions. The winter activities therefore differ in both sport and route length.

Saint-Claude Church

For visitors interested in architectural history as well as the lake and trails, Saint-Claude Church offers a specific historical connection. The present-day church was rebuilt in 1932–1933 to plans by the architect Mognetti. It stands on the eastern shore of Lac de Saint-Point. The rebuilding dates and the architect’s name give this cultural topic a clear timeframe and personal connection.
