Consolation-Maisonnettes lies at the sources of the Dessoubre and Lançot rivers. The Val de Consolation has numerous springs and waterfalls, and 350-metre-high cliffs surround the valley. This makes water and rock a natural focus for planning your visit, complemented by marked trails and the chapel of the Monastère du Val de Consolation. You can choose what to explore based on your interests: a walking route with a viewpoint and waterfall, other marked circular trails, or a visit with a historical focus.

Water and Rock Formations

The Grotte du Lançot is 50 metres deep, 40 metres wide and 15 metres high. It is therefore more than three times as deep as it is high; its width falls between the two measurements and is closer to its depth. Roche du Prêtre is a rocky outcrop more than 300 metres high. The 350-metre-high cliffs surrounding the Val and this outcrop represent different landforms: cliffs surround the valley, while Roche du Prêtre is a single outcrop. Their heights are of a similar order of magnitude, but they describe different landforms.

Circular Trails and Other Activities

The Sainte-Catherine circular trail leads to the viewpoint of the same name and includes a there-and-back walk to the Cascade du Lançot. If you choose this route, take both the viewpoint and the there-and-back walk to the Cascade into account when planning. This way, you can keep both destinations in mind without treating the trail sections as one and the same.

Two marked circular trails start at the Monastère du Val de Consolation. The Val de Consolation also has mountain biking and trail running routes. When choosing an outing, you can first decide which activity you want—circular walking trail, mountain biking or trail running—and then consult the relevant route description. These are different types of routes; this does not mean they form one continuous route.

Chapel and Guided Tours

The chapel of the Monastère du Val de Consolation was built in 1682 and is open to visitors. It adds a historical visit to nature-focused outings. If you want to combine different interests during your trip, you can treat a visit to the chapel as a separate activity alongside the trails.

Cultural, recreational and sports-focused guided tours are offered in the Val de Consolation. Each of the three options has a different focus, so consider which best suits your interests. If you want to make a guided tour a firm part of your plans, check the dates for your visit.

Getting There and Choosing Accommodation

The Val de Consolation is accessible by car, two-wheeled vehicles, bus and campervan. Parking is available at the entrance to the Val de Consolation. If travelling by bus, it is best to check the timetable for your chosen day; before setting out, it is also worth checking the latest information on getting there and parking.

When looking for a holiday rental, you can first organise your planned visits: will circular trails and viewpoints be the focus of your stay, or would you like to include the chapel and a guided tour? Then check whether the location and details of the specific accommodation suit your own plans. This lets you include your accommodation as a starting point in your trip planning and focus your search on the experiences that matter to you.
