Prehistoric megalithic sites, historic religious buildings, and the Agriate nature reserve offer different topics to explore in Santo-Pietro-Di-Tenda. You can also learn about wine and olive oil production. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether archaeology, architectural history, landscapes, or local produce should shape your stay.

Monte Revincu and Monastic History

Monte Revincu is a prehistoric megalithic complex with megalithic tombs and statue-menhir stones. The site's archaeological remains were fully protected as a historic monument by decree on October 25, 2018. The tombs and statues bring the site's archaeological significance into focus and set it apart.

The Ancien couvent Saint-Joseph also brings together several historical connections. It was rebuilt in 1630 next to a 12th-century Pisan church. The former monastery complex was arranged around a Romanesque church and included a cloister. In 1758, the monastery hosted a consulta led by General Paoli. Its historical points of interest thus range from the older church and its rebuilding to an event in the 18th century.

Religious Architecture in Casta

In Casta, the historic ensemble of the Église Saint-Jean and the Chapelle des Pénitents de la Sainte-Croix is protected. The Église Saint-Jean-Évangéliste and the Oratoire Sainte-Croix form a Baroque ensemble, connected by their bell tower. A large forecourt of compacted earth is accessed through an elaborately crafted portal. The interior of the ensemble is decorated with notable trompe-l’œil paintings.

The religious architecture features a range of details: the bell tower connecting the buildings, the portal at the forecourt, and the paintings inside. Those interested in historic architecture can see both the form of a former monastery complex and a protected ensemble in Casta.

Agriate: Nature Reserve and Landscape

The Agriate nature reserve also includes Santo-Pietro-Di-Tenda and is open to the public. Its landscape includes Mediterranean maquis, dunes, wetlands, and Neolithic archaeological sites. The area extends beyond the commune: the Agriate includes 37 kilometres of natural, undeveloped coastline and the beaches of Saleccia, Lotu, Ghignu, and Ostriconi.

Monte Astu offers a different kind of landscape. It can be accessed from Santu Petru di Tenda via its eastern slope. This places an extensive nature reserve with coastal and wetland landscapes alongside a named access route on Monte Astu's eastern slope as distinct ways to experience nature.

Wine and Olive Oil

Domaine Casta in L’Osteria produces olive oil and is certified organic. The winery offers insights into its work as well as tastings of AOP-Patrimoniu wines. Historically, Santo-Pietro-Di-Tenda had 36 olive mills. Today's production at Domaine Casta and the historical number of mills offer two distinct ways to explore local produce and its history.

Excursions and Shuttle Services

Le Relais de Saleccia offers 4x4 excursions to explore the Agriate, as well as combined 4x4 and hiking tours. It also offers rentals of electric quads, SSVs, and mountain bikes, as well as 4x4 shuttles to the beaches of Saleccia and Loto. The options serve different purposes: excursions explore the Agriate, combined tours include hikes, and the shuttle goes to two named beach destinations. Tours, rentals, and shuttle availability may vary; check current options before planning your trip.

These themes offer different ways to experience Santo-Pietro-Di-Tenda, without requiring you to combine them into a single itinerary.
