Villemandeur offers several distinct ways to shape a stay: you can explore architectural history, walk through a natural area or plan active pursuits. The local attractions cover quite different themes. Église Saint-Didier and the two château sites reflect different historical periods; the Prairie du Puiseaux et du Vernisson combines a circular trail with wildlife watching. There is also a cycling connection via the Scandibérique and other activities. You can tailor your stay to your interests.
Church and château history
The present-day Église Saint-Didier dates from the 19th century. It replaced an older building whose foundations date back to the 11th century. If you are interested in historical development, you can distinguish between these two periods.
Château de Lisledon also has a long history: it originated as a feudal building and was rebuilt in the Renaissance style in the 17th century. It is important to distinguish between the building and the grounds when planning a visit. The building is not open to visitors, but the grounds are open to the public. Check the latest access information for the grounds before your visit.
At Château du Vieux-Villemandeur, the surviving remains are the main attraction. These include a fortified enclosure, two towers and a small section of the moats fed by the Puiseaux. The two château sites therefore offer different points of interest: Lisledon can be explored through its architectural history and publicly accessible grounds, while the remains of the fortifications shape the impression at Vieux-Villemandeur.
Nature area and wildlife watching
The Espace Naturel Sensible de la Prairie du Puiseaux et du Vernisson covers 15 hectares and extends across Villemandeur, Montargis and Amilly. A circular trail is 1 km long and includes a 115-metre section accessible to people with reduced mobility. As trail conditions can change, check them before your visit, especially if the accessible section is important to your plans.
The area also has three wildlife observation points. Roe deer, hares and pheasants are found there.
Cycling route and active pursuits
If you are planning to cycle during your stay, you can also take into account Villemandeur’s connection to the Scandibérique: the town is near this longest European cycling route.
Trott'Rider offers rides on off-road electric scooters in Villemandeur. They are available to people aged 12 and over; helmets and gloves are provided. The age requirement, equipment, and booking and operating details may change. Check these before making plans.
Le Trinquet offers a different kind of activity: it has four squash courts and a bouldering wall. This makes it easy to distinguish these sports facilities from an electric scooter ride when weighing up different activities for your stay. Facility availability may change; check in advance.
