The three loops of the Sentier des Sources range from 4.4 to 7.6 km; there are also longer PR walking trails and opportunities to observe nature at Étang du Ravoir. Other outing themes in Ouzouer-sur-Loire include local history, the Loire à Vélo and the Sunday market.

Compare walking trails by distance and duration

The Sentier des Sources comprises three walking loops measuring 7.6 km, 5 km and 4.4 km. It starts at Carrefour de la Résistance. The PR du Port K10 starts at Place du Comice and is 5.5 km long; its stated duration is 1 hour 30 minutes. The PR de la Loire K11 is 11 km and takes 2 hours 45 minutes. This trail runs along the sand quarry to the Loire.

At 19 km and 4 hours 45 minutes, the PR du Ravoir K12 is the longest of the options listed here. It follows Route du Ravoir, Carrefour de la Résistance and the Sentier des Sources. The distances and stated durations give you concrete points of comparison for planning. For the PR routes, check the trail markings on site.

Nature watching at Étang du Ravoir

The Observatoire du Ravoir was established at Étang du Ravoir by the Office national des Forêts for observing ospreys. It is in the Forêt domaniale d’Orléans, within the commune of Ouzouer-sur-Loire. From the observatory, the osprey nest on the opposite bank can be seen at a distance of about 300 m. The Sentier de l’observatoire du Ravoir leads to an ornithological observatory on the shore of Étang du Ravoir.

The trail passes through the former Carrière du Grand Cas. The former extraction site has since been recolonised by rare and protected plant species and designated a Natura 2000 site. If you plan to take this trail, check local conditions before your walk, as they may change.

Memorial sites and Loire ports

Carrefour de la Résistance commemorates the killing of resistance fighters and civilians on 14 August 1944. Burnt-out forestry houses remain there, and a memorial honours the victims of the events. The Sentier des Sources also starts at the Carrefour, and the PR du Ravoir K12 passes through this point.

Ouzouer-sur-Loire’s Loire ports include Port de l’Orme and Port aux Bois. The ports have stood on the banks of the Loire alongside the town centre since the 18th century. Originally, Ouzouer-sur-Loire’s Loire ports were used to transport timber by steamboat on the Loire. The town’s early history also goes back a long way: in the 9th century, people from Tours fleeing Viking attacks and carrying holy relics upstream built an oratory in Ouzouer-sur-Loire.

Market, cycling route and canoeing

The Sunday market features cold cuts, regional cheeses, honey and roast chicken. The selection of products may vary. For a different way to explore the area, the Loire à Vélo cycling route passes through Ouzouer-sur-Loire. Canoeing on the Loire is also offered as an activity; providers and launch conditions may change. Check these conditions before making plans.
