Razines combines historic buildings with a walk through meadows and along the edge of the forest. The history of wine-growing and specific details about the route add two further points of interest to the picture of the area. When planning a stay, architectural history, wine and time spent outdoors are all part of the experience. For the walk, consider not only the distance but also route-finding and supplies; the buildings, meanwhile, can be understood in terms of their construction phases and listing dates.
Historic Landmarks in Razines
Château de Chargé is located in Razines. The estate dates back to the 11th century; in 1070, it was donated to Noyers Abbey. The chapel has been listed as a historic monument since September 17, 1986. The estate’s origins and the chapel’s listing date therefore belong to different periods.
Ancienne église Sainte-Catherine is located on the road from Faye-la-Vineuse to Razines. It belonged to Noyers Abbey, which received it as a donation at the beginning of the 12th century. The round-arched doorway on the west façade retains traces of its moulding; the archivolt is decorated with a festoon pattern and a checkerboard design. The building consists of a timber-roofed nave ending in a flat chancel. A side aisle was added on the north side in the 15th century. The portal ornament and the later side aisle draw attention to different stages in the building’s history. The church was listed as a historic monument on August 28, 1950.

Practical Hiking Plans
The walk through Bois de Saint-Gilles begins at Carroi des Sept Chemins. The starting point can be reached via a passable track running between the centre of Razines to the west and the D20 or D107 roads to the east. The route alternates between meadows and the edge of the forest; at one point, three rows of vines are on the right. The walk is not signposted, so a detailed map is essential. There is a picnic table at the start and end point; check its condition and the current route conditions before your visit. There is no water point along the walk, and there are no shops in the immediate vicinity. Plan to bring water and make any necessary purchases in advance.
