A tree-lined park with literary features, waterside nature activities, and buildings bearing different traces of history give a trip to Cloyes-Sur-Le-Loir a variety of possible focuses. The town also offers a circular cycling route with views over the Loir Valley and serves as a stop on the Way of St. James. When planning your trip, it is worth considering which cultural, scenic, or active pursuits interest you most.

Parks Between Literature and Nature

Parc Émile Zola is a large, tree-lined park between two branches of the Loir. It is home to Tour Henri IV. Several paths introduce visitors to the lives of six local writers, giving the park a literary dimension as well.

The unique Jardin des Lumières experience trail in Parc Émile Zola offers another way to explore the theme of literature. It focuses on trees and literature. Five trees shape the trail, each telling a story. Different forms of interpretation thus sit side by side in the same park: paths featuring the biographies of writers and stories associated with the trees. A plant maze also leads to a viewpoint.

Parc et Plan d’eau des Tirelles has a different focus. It lies within the territory of Cloyes-Sur-Le-Loir and Montigny-le-Gannelon. Walking, fishing, and mountain biking are possible there year-round. A fitness trail adds to these activities, while information boards cover birds, fauna, and flora. Whereas literature and garden design stand out at Parc Émile Zola, Tirelles draws attention to nature and physical activity.

Churches and Romanesque Architectural History

Église Saint-Georges dates back to around the year 1000. The nave was extended around 1400, and the bell tower was built during the same period. The church is partially listed as a historic monument, and the bell tower was protected by decree on 9 July 1927. Inside are numerous notable statues. This building thus brings together a long history, a specific architectural alteration, and noteworthy features.

Chapelle d’Yron combines the plain Romanesque style of the 11th century with the more refined and ornamental Romanesque style of the 12th century. Beneath the roof is an exceptionally well-preserved chestnut timber roof structure. In contrast to Église Saint-Georges, whose history can be traced through the nave extension and the construction of the tower, the focus here is on two Romanesque stylistic periods and the roof structure.

Cycling Route and Getting Your Bearings

The “Circuit N° 1 – Cloyes-sur-le-Loir” cycling tourism loop passes through Cloyes-Sur-Le-Loir. It offers sweeping views of the Loir Valley, the ponds, and Château de Montigny-le-Gannelon. Check route conditions before setting off. This is different from the walks, fishing, and mountain biking at Tirelles, which are explicitly possible year-round.

Cloyes-Sur-Le-Loir is also a stop on the Chemin de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle. The town is designated a Village Étape and is five minutes from National Route 10. Together with the varied attractions in the parks and at the historic buildings, this offers different ways to tailor your stay to your interests.
