La Loupe offers several distinct themes for travellers interested in culture and history: the Château with its preserved architecture, art experiences at the Médiathèque l'Escapade and a playful immersion in local history. The Etang du Petit Gasloup adds a fishing course dedicated to learning how to fish. Visitors can choose between architectural history, digital art education, the history of 1944 and fishing.

The Château and historic architecture

The present-day Château of La Loupe was built in 1665 to plans by Vauban. A large corps de logis has been preserved. On the park side, the projecting section of the building has two niches on each floor, framing the large window. Two architectural scales meet here: the preserved section of the building and the recurring division of the façade. Visitors can focus on either the building’s history or a precisely described architectural feature.

Art education and history

The Médiathèque l'Escapade houses a Micro-Folie. Works of art are shown there on a large screen; on tablets, paintings can be assembled as puzzles. The programme also includes operas and films with high-quality sound. The offer alternates between viewing art on a large scale, engaging with paintings through play and audiovisual works. If you are looking for digital art formats, this offers a different way in than the Château’s architectural history.

The Caves de l'Histoire offer an immersive, playful experience in which visitors can relive a day in 1944. The local history is then explained in the Salon Résistance, in the Passage La Loupe bombardée and through accounts of life in 1944. The experience combines reliving the past with a subsequent explanation of local history. The Caves are open year-round on Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Check the opening hours again before your visit.

The Château and Caves de l'Histoire offer different approaches to history: the Château focuses on preserved architecture and façade details, while the Caves focus on reliving a day and the explanation that follows.

Fishing and hiking

The Etang du Petit Gasloup is a 3,500 m² pond in the heart of the commune of La Loupe. It is the first fishing course in the Eure-et-Loir département to receive the “Découverte” label and was designed and laid out to make learning how to fish easier. This gives it a different focus from the cultural offerings: its theme is a fishing course with a designated educational purpose.

For hiking enthusiasts, the GR® 35 adds another option. Its new route between La Loupe and Thiron-Gardais opened in 2023. Alongside architecture, art and local history, visitors can therefore choose a specific hiking route and a fishing course.
