Argent-Sur-Sauldre Castle houses the Musée des Métiers d'Antan; the Église Saint-André is within the castle grounds. There are also walks along the banks of the Canal de la Sauldre and the Au Pays-Fort hiking route. The seasonal Aquaparc at Étang du Puits adds another attraction. When choosing a destination, everyday life and architectural history, hiking, and seasonal leisure activities can be considered as distinct areas of interest.

Crafts and rural life

The Musée des Métiers d'Antan is a stop on the Route Jacques Cœur. Through its presentation of various crafts, it introduces visitors to forgotten know-how and rural life in the 19th century. Examples of local pottery businesses and reconstructed scenes of everyday life complement these themes. Across three floors, the museum recreates the workshops of craftspeople whose trades have now disappeared. The exhibits thus connect craftsmanship with a portrayal of everyday life, giving the pottery examples and workshops a shared context in rural life.

The architectural history of the Église Saint-André

The Église Saint-André is a protected historic monument within the castle grounds. It was probably built as a castle chapel in the 13th century. At the beginning of the 15th century, the nave was enlarged for Marie de Sully and Charles d'Albret; the tower porch, choir, apse and chapels date from the 15th century. Octave Guérin restored the building in 1892. This sequence distinguishes a presumed origin from later construction phases and the restoration; the building's function as a chapel remains explicitly uncertain.

For a cultural focus, there is a clear contrast: the museum turns the spotlight on crafts and everyday life, while the church draws attention to protected architecture and its construction phases.

Walks and hiking route

The Canal de la Sauldre was built in the 19th century to improve the soil in the Sologne. Today, it is industrial heritage, and walks are possible along its banks. A walk along the canal therefore offers a different focus from the church's architectural history: here, the emphasis is on the canal's former function and its present-day status as industrial heritage.

The Au Pays-Fort hiking route also leads to the Canal de la Sauldre: it starts in Argent-Sur-Sauldre and crosses the canal at the Launay lock. For planning, the starting point in the town and the crossing at the lock are two useful landmarks. Route conditions may change, so check them before setting out.

Seasonal leisure activities at Étang du Puits

At Étang du Puits in Argent-Sur-Sauldre, the seasonal Aquaparc offers, among other attractions, a slide, a trampoline, the XTREM Tower and paddleboards. Unlike walks along the canal, this is a leisure attraction with specific activities. Opening arrangements may change, so check the dates before your trip.
