Couchey can be explored through three distinct interests: wine experiences, views across the vineyards and individual heritage sites. For planning purposes, it is important to note that these experiences are organized differently: tastings and a visit to the La Petite Maison gallery require an appointment in advance; the Table d’orientation de Couchey is also the starting point for numerous walks.
Wine, Tastings and Village Life
Domaine Ghislain Kohut offers wine tastings at its location in Couchey by prior appointment. During the tasting, the vineyard and wines are presented. Please reconfirm your appointment before your visit.
Clos de Bourgogne offers walks through the vineyards. This gives you different ways to explore winegrowing: a tasting with an introduction to the vineyard and wines at the Domaine, or a walk among the vines at Clos de Bourgogne. When planning, you can therefore choose between a tasting visit that requires an appointment and an activity in the vineyard.
The workshop is titled “Dégustation intuitive au Coeur de la Côte de Nuits.” It includes three Burgundy wines, including wines from the “Bourgogne” and “Village” appellations. Dates may vary, so check the date that suits you before adding the workshop to your travel plans.
An annual feature of village life is a meal on the first Sunday in July. The meal draws on the spirit of the 2023 Saint-Vincent celebration. In addition to its wine experiences, Couchey therefore offers a recurring event in the yearly calendar, tied to a specific Sunday.
Panoramas and Walks
The Table d’orientation de Couchey offers a 180-degree panorama over the vineyards and also serves as the starting point for numerous walks. Here, the view and walking are both associated with the same named location, without specifying a particular route or walking time. If you would first like to take in the landscape as a whole, the panorama is the place to go; if you would like to explore on foot, the orientation table points the way to the walks.
Another landscape feature in the Couchey area is the Combe de Vaulon. Together with the panorama over the vineyards, it offers a second perspective on the local landscape: the Table d’orientation is associated with a specific viewpoint and walks, while the Combe is a landscape feature located within Couchey.
Architecture and Art in Couchey
The Château de Couchey, on Impasse du Vieux château, is a former fortified house. Its architectural features include a central gatehouse and two round towers on the west façade. These details give the building a distinctive architectural character: as well as identifying its historical significance, they describe the layout of its west side.
Another architectural detail can be seen on the bell tower of Saint-Germain church, which is covered with glazed roof tiles. Allée des Tilleuls, meanwhile, is a tree-lined village promenade; its trees are said to be several centuries old. A restored dovecote stands in the park of the so-called Château de Bauffremont. These places differ in form—from the church tower to the promenade and the structure in the park—and add various aspects of Couchey’s character to the picture.
La Petite Maison is an art gallery in Couchey featuring works by painter and visual artist Pascal Lazzarotti. Visits are possible by prior appointment by SMS or phone. This means a gallery visit requires different planning from a walk: arrange your appointment in advance, and discover the gallery’s works by a specific artist.
