Natural areas along the Seiche and local cultural sites give Vern-Sur-Seiche two distinct visitor attractions. The Vallée de la Seiche brings together ponds, a sandy beach and paths; cultural attractions include historic buildings and the Le Volume cultural centre. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether you would like to spend more time outdoors or enjoying cultural activities.

Nature along the Seiche and in the Bois de Sœuvres

The Vallée de la Seiche is a 30-hectare natural area that includes the Étangs du Paturiaux. There is a sandy beach within the area. The paths along the Seiche are open year-round to walkers, joggers and cyclists. This means the paths are not limited to a particular season; swimming at the beach, however, is subject to seasonal regulations. The Circuit d'Outre Seiche is a designated walking trail and a specific option for walks in Vern-sur-Seiche.

The Bois de Sœuvres is home to deer, foxes, birds of prey, owls, amphibians and the rare barbastelle bat. Another public natural area is the park of the Château de Vern in the Clos Orrière, which is open to the public.

Buildings and cultural activities

The Église Saint-Martin, an emblematic municipal building, stands in the centre of Vern-sur-Seiche. The Manoir du Plessis and the Moulin des Bouillants both date from the 18th century. The Pont de Vaugon was built over the Seiche in 1763. The manor house and mill therefore share the same century, while the bridge has a specific construction year.

Access arrangements vary for individual buildings. The Moulin des Bouillants is occasionally opened for visits, particularly during the European Heritage Days. At the Manoir du Plessis, the grounds are open for visits during those days. If you are planning a visit around these dates, check the programme for the current year.

The Le Volume cultural centre includes a media library, an exhibition space, an auditorium, and a music and dance school. It hosts contemporary art exhibitions and film screenings. If you would like to include an exhibition or screening in your trip, check the current programme dates.

Canoeing and kayaking

The Base nautique de Vern-sur-Seiche rents out single kayaks and canoes for three people. Canoe and kayak trips on the Seiche can start there, amid green natural surroundings. USV Canoë-Kayak, the Union sportive vernoise, offers canoe and kayak rentals and courses in the Vallée de la Seiche year-round. While the Base nautique lists specific types of boats, the USV also offers courses. Check the USV’s current booking arrangements before your trip.
