Thorigné-Fouillard offers a range of options for a stay: nature on the edge of the forest, leisure activities at the Base de loisirs de Poprune and the Domaine de Tizé on the Vilaine. If you’re looking for a holiday rental, you can choose your destination based on how you want to spend your days: walking, getting active on a trail or enjoying a cultural programme. Each place offers different ways to spend your time and take part in activities.

Les Gaudriers and walking trails

Les Gaudriers covers 42 hectares and is home to around 400 animal and plant species. The site lies on the edge of the Rennes state forest, in a bocage landscape typical of Ille-et-Vilaine. The average walking time for a stroll there is around 45 minutes; this may vary depending on walking conditions. This makes a visit to the natural area easy to plan as a short block of time. If you’re including the GR39 in your walking plans, you can also consider the route through the centre of Thorigné-Fouillard: it adds around 2.5 kilometres to the stage. These two figures relate to different planning considerations: the walking time is for a stroll at Les Gaudriers, while the extra distance applies to a GR39 stage through the town centre.

Leisure activities at the Base de loisirs de Poprune

The Base de loisirs de Poprune combines a specific trail with several leisure facilities. From there, a 3.5-kilometre paved path leads to the edge of the Culon forest. Its length and surface make this option different from the stroll at Les Gaudriers: the average walking time is given for Les Gaudriers, while the key planning details here are the trail’s length and surface. The base also has a playground with a slide and swings, a zip line and a spider-web climbing structure. Other facilities include a multisport court, volleyball and pétanque courts, and two outdoor fitness areas. You can therefore include both leisure facilities and a trail to the edge of the forest in your plans; the activity that suits your day depends on what you have in mind.

Domaine de Tizé: Landscape, Trails and Culture

The Domaine de Tizé covers 13 hectares and includes woodland, meadows and an arm of the Vilaine. The site contains buildings dating from the 14th to the 19th century. As a public site, it is a facility of metropolitan community interest and is used daily by walkers, visitors, people taking part in sports, school groups, employee groups and neighbours; creative people also spend time there. Woodland, meadows and the waterway shape the landscape, while the buildings add a historical dimension.

If you’d like to include cycling or kayaking, the Domaine can be reached via cycle paths and waterways. The start and finish are right at the Domaine on the Vilaine. Route conditions and access arrangements may change, so check them before setting out.

Activities by Au bout du plongeoir also take place at the Domaine de Tizé. At public presentations, the initiative invites people to discover other worlds and exchange ideas. The specific presentations on offer depend on the programme. If culture is a focus of your stay, check in advance which format is planned for your visit.
