Street theatre, puzzle stations and paths through green spaces reveal different sides of Chantepie. A visit can be planned around a recurring cultural festival or focused on individual parks and routes. To choose, it helps to distinguish between a specific event programme, a geocaching trail and longer routes on foot or by bike. This lets you organise your stay around your own interests without trying to fit every activity into a single outing programme.
Cultural events and discoveries
Chantepie takes part in the recurring intermunicipal festival “Un Weekend à la Rue”. The programme includes free street theatre and other street art performances, as well as theatre and music. Dates, programmes and performance locations vary from one edition to the next. So if you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates and programme for your chosen edition in advance.
The 2 km “Chantepie et les chemins de traverse” geocaching circuit, with eight puzzle stations, offers a different way to explore. A fountain, a charade and traces of an old tram line are among the puzzle and discovery features. The stations therefore cover different themes: alongside a specific place, you will encounter a word puzzle and traces of transport history. This gives the circuit a different focus from a walk centred primarily on green spaces.
Green spaces and events
The Coulée verte is the setting for numerous public events each year, including the Fête de la musique. It also connects Place des Marelles with the Maison pour tous. When planning a visit there, you can therefore include both a specific event and these named landmarks in your choices. For the Fête de la musique, it is a good idea to check the date of the relevant edition before travelling.
At Parc Dolto, a shaded walk around a pond passes through a diverse range of plant life; the park also has a children's play area. By contrast, sculptures and mosaics are the focus of the relaxation area at Jardin Odorrico. It also has a children's playground and a multisport area. The two sites therefore offer different experiences: the pond and plant life shape the walk at Parc Dolto, while Jardin Odorrico brings together works of art and several types of facilities.
Getting around on foot and by bike
The “Balade à Roulettes® - Au fil de la coulée verte” is a 3.7 km walking route starting in Chantepie. The starting point is in the car park of the new cemetery on Avenue d’Orient. As access conditions should be checked before travelling, this check is part of your preparations. The stated route offers another way to explore the surrounding area on foot, but it is considerably longer than the 2 km geocaching circuit.
For a longer cycling route, the “Vallée de la Vilaine amont” covers 24 km and takes approximately two hours. It connects Chantepie with Noyal-sur-Vilaine and passes through fields and pastureland. A route starting in Chantepie also passes through Bois de Sœuvres, a 170-hectare natural area with great biodiversity. Compared with the parks described above, this natural area offers a different scale for an outing: its size and biodiversity characterise the natural setting, while Parc Dolto and Jardin Odorrico are individual sites with their own features.
When planning, you can choose between the options based on time and interest: a puzzle trail with eight stations, a 3.7 km route or a 24 km cycling route with a stated approximate duration of two hours. Those interested in culture can also take account of the changing festival programmes and the annual events in the Coulée verte. Chantepie therefore offers both individual destinations for an outing and recurring events to choose from.
