Plouyé offers specific architectural and artistic features for a culture-focused trip: three chapels and the Église Saint-Pierre each highlight different periods and styles. There is also the Boucle de Ker ar Park, a hiking route with clearly stated details. During your stay, you can choose between cultural heritage and a longer hike.

Chapels with distinctive details

The Chapelle Saint-Mathurin was rebuilt in 1838; the year 1839 is inscribed on the bell tower. The site also includes a calvary and a fountain. The calvary depicts Christ and the two thieves as figures carved from a single stone. The rebuilding date, the year on the tower and the sculpture each give the chapel a distinct point of reference.

The Chapelle Saint-Maudez is an elongated, rectangular chapel dating from the 17th century. Its south wall contains a window with Flamboyant Gothic tracery. The openwork choir screen and the crucifix were restored in 2001–2002. Here, the window design and restored furnishings take centre stage, distinguishing these features from those of Saint-Mathurin.

The Chapelle Saint-Salomon also dates from the 17th century and has a rectangular plan. The sacristy is on its north side, and an inscription on a door bears the year 1660. The calvary has its own distinctive features: statues stand in pairs on either side of the crucifix, and a Madonna and Child are on the reverse. The three chapels can therefore be distinguished by their different architectural forms, dates and works of art.

Layers of history at the Église Saint-Pierre

The Église Saint-Pierre was rebuilt between 1862 and 1864 to plans by the architect Jules Boyer. The bell tower, part of a wall and the west portal survived from the original 17th-century church. The two dates refer to different building phases: the 19th-century rebuilding and the older church from which these elements originate.

The Église Saint-Pierre also houses a 16th-century Pietà. It stands in a niche with double-leaf shutters decorated with twelve bas-relief scenes from the Passion. An Iron Age stele stands east of the choir. Here, a work of art, surviving architectural elements and an archaeological artefact come together.

Planning for pardons and hikes

The Pardon de Saint Maudez is celebrated in Plouyé on the last Sunday in July. If you would like to plan your trip around this recurring local tradition, check the specific event date for your chosen year in advance.

The Boucle de Ker ar Park is 10 kilometres long; the stated duration is three hours, with 170 metres of ascent. The route is not marked, so a map or GPX track may be helpful for navigation. Allow the stated amount of time for the hike and take navigation into account in your preparations.

A separate caution applies to the Circuit des Trois Chapelles: take care when crossing and on sections of the route that run alongside departmental roads.
