Pleudaniel combines distinctive architectural history with opportunities to explore the surrounding area on foot or by bike. At the Traou Meur tide mill, the preserved mechanisms and the causeway take center stage; for the routes, specific starting points, markings and a designated cycling route provide guidance. This lets you tailor your stay to your interest in historic buildings, a hike or a bike ride.

Mill, Church and Architectural History

The Traou Meur tide mill, its preserved mechanisms and its causeway were listed as historic monuments in 1987 and classified as such on April 30, 1991. The two dates distinguish the listing from the later classification. The mill’s protected history also encompasses more than the building: its mechanisms and causeway are among the specifically named features.

The present-day parish church of Saint-Pierre in Pleudaniel dates from the 17th and 18th centuries and reuses structural elements from the earlier church. Elements listed as historic monuments include its bell tower and pulpit. Both the reused older parts and the separately listed features are therefore significant to the church’s architectural history.

The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Coz-Ilis in Camarel dates from 1716 and stands on the site of an older chapel, probably built in the 6th century. The early date of the predecessor chapel remains an estimate; 1716 is the year of the present chapel. Another historical trace is offered by the Chapelle de Goz Iliz, also in Camarel in Pleudaniel: its door dates from the 16th century and bears the coats of arms of the lords of Le Parc.

The Croix du Vossec is also a historical landmark. It dates from the 17th century and is considered the oldest and most interesting cross in Pleudaniel. Alongside the mill, parish church and chapels, it shows how different kinds of structures each bring their own details and periods to the fore.

Distinguishing the Walks and Cycling Route

The Boucle de Manaty walk leads from the Boloï Forest to the banks of the Bizien. It is marked in yellow and follows a counterclockwise route. Since route markings can change, check the signage before setting out. The Boucle de l'estuaire du Trieux starts at Pleudaniel town hall. This makes it possible to compare two different kinds of directions: for Manaty, the route, marking and direction are specified; for the Estuary loop, the starting point in town is given.

For cycling, the Boucle de Pleudaniel offers a separate option. The circular route starts in Pleudaniel, is 15.9 kilometers long and is suitable for trekking bikes (VTC) or mountain bikes (VTT). Information about trail conditions can change; check the latest route information before setting off. Its length and suitable bike types provide specific points of reference when choosing between this ride and the walks mentioned above. You can start by deciding how you want to get around: Manaty has yellow markings and a specified direction, the Trieux route starts at town hall, and the cycling loop has a stated distance.

Crafts and Planning Your Visit

The artisan pottery workshop Poterie Lemonnier, run by Jean-Yves and Catherine Lemonnier, is located at 2, Pors Ru, 22740 Pleudaniel. Before planning a visit, check directly with the workshop whether and when it welcomes visitors. This lets you include the workshop as a separate interest in your plans without equating it with the historic buildings or routes.

The Chapelle Saint-Antoine is privately owned. Check locally in advance whether a visit is possible. This restriction should be taken into account differently from the route information: for Manaty, check the current markings; for the cycling route, check the current trail conditions; and for the chapel, check whether a visit is possible.
