In Cohiniac, two distinct themes can help shape your travel plans: Karting de Kerlabo and an architectural history that can be traced through churches, chapels and historic buildings. This gives you a concrete basis for deciding which theme you want to define your stay before looking for a holiday rental. The historic buildings date from different centuries; more details are available about the karting, including a hilly race track and an electric option for children.

Karting as a specific part of your trip

The Circuit de Kerlabo offers a unique, hilly race track more than 800 metres long. Karting de Kerlabo offers electric karting for children aged three to six. For travel planning with children in this age group, this is a specific age range. Karting de Kerlabo is located in Cohiniac on the route between Châtelaudren and Quintin. The track description and the age-specific offer provide different points of reference: one gives the track’s length and character, while the other specifies the age group for electric karting.

Châteaux and building phases

The Château de Beaumanoir was rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries on the remains of a 15th-century building. In 1895, it was restored and remodelled in the Gothic Revival style. This sequence reveals a long building history: the remains of an older structure, a reconstruction in later centuries and further changes in the 19th century.

The main building of the Château du Rumain dates from the 16th century. A significant pavilion was added in the 18th century; a gallery and two turrets were added during a restoration in 1877. The Domaine de Beaumanoir lies partly within the territory of Cohiniac and was listed as a historic monument by decree dated 9 May 1990. The listing is a distinct aspect of the area’s architectural history.

Churches and chapels from several centuries

The Church of Saint-Quentin in Cohiniac was completely rebuilt between 1702 and 1777. Its portal, however, dates from the 14th century and is identical to the portal of Notre-Dame-du-Tertre in Châtelaudren. The bell tower was added in 1845. Different periods therefore come together in one building: the medieval portal, the church’s reconstruction and the later-dated tower.

The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Toutes-Joies, also known as the Chapelle de Grimolet, was built in the 15th century and restored in 1877. The Chapelle Sainte-Anne du Rumen, also known as Rumain, represents a different architectural form: it is a rectangular oratory dating from the 18th century. The different names are useful when planning a trip, as they help distinguish this chapel from other historic buildings with similar place names.

Two mills, two different stories

The Moulin aux prêtres was originally a manorial mill owned by priests. It stands in an isolated location; the Leff watercourse runs past or through the building. The mill still contains the complete electrical installation that supplied energy to the Château du Rumin. This installation is considered relatively unusual and also makes the Moulin aux prêtres interesting from the perspective of technological history.

The Moulin aux Moines in Cohiniac is distinct from it: this former grain mill is now used as a residence. The similar names refer to different buildings and stories. When sorting through the local historic sites, you can distinguish between a mill with a preserved electrical installation and a former grain-mill site.

Cohiniac as a destination when looking for accommodation

When looking for a holiday rental in Cohiniac, having a clear focus for your trip can help: would the age-specific karting offer for children aged three to six be relevant, or are you particularly interested in the building phases of churches, chapels and châteaux?
