Sanssac-l'Église combines a challenging hike with recurring cultural events; the history of Saint-Symphorien Church spans from a Romanesque apse to 19th-century reconstructions.

Church, Estate and Historic Route

Saint-Symphorien Church has a 12th-century Romanesque apse built from volcanic scoria. In the 19th century, the nave and bell tower were reconstructed in the Neo-Romanesque style by Eugène Riboud. The church also contains a chasuble cabinet bearing the coat of arms of the Bishop of Le Puy.

The Domaine du Barret was first mentioned in 1250. Its original layout consisted of a fortified house surrounded by a square perimeter wall, with watchtowers at at least two corners. The historic Voie Bolène connected Rodez with Lyon and passed through Sanssac-l'Église.

Music and Art Throughout the Year

The Buena Onda Festival is held annually in Sanssac-l'Église and is dedicated to contemporary music. Depending on the edition, it may include a craft market, a multisport tournament, an outdoor stage and activities for children. Dates and programmes vary by edition. If you would like to plan your stay around it, check the details for the relevant edition.

Another annual event is the literary and artistic salon “Du Pinceau à la plume”. It takes place in the municipality's socio-cultural hall. For future dates, it is advisable to check the event details before travelling.

Hiking and Orienteering

The PR467 Les eaux de Vourzac hiking trail starts and ends in Sanssac-l'Église. It is rated difficult, is 11.4 km long and has a listed duration of three hours. The stated elevation gain and loss are both 215 metres. Before setting out, check the latest trail conditions and access information.

Nearby, the Pinatelle du Zouave orienteering area offers a heritage trail as well as green, red and black courses ranging from 1.2 to 4 km. Check the current course layout before visiting. To help choose, compare the distances: the PR467 covers 11.4 km, while the Pinatelle du Zouave courses range from 1.2 to 4 km. This makes trail length a practical planning measure for the different options.

Horse Riding and Trout Products

The Centre Equestre Les Petits Chevaux is a pony club and riding school. It offers group and private riding lessons, as well as rides for children and adults aged four and over. Before travelling there, check the current lessons and rides on offer, along with the minimum age.

You can buy fresh and smoked trout products on site at the shop of the Ferme aquacole de Vourzac. If this purchase is important to your stay, check in advance whether the products are available in the shop.
