Connangles combines hikes and striking natural landmarks with tangible traces of local history. PR614 La Roche Martine starts in the village; PR616 La Croix de Lavèze offers a different highlight, with panoramic views of La Chaise-Dieu. The cultural history includes the Church of Saint-Etienne and the former priory of La Chaise-Dieu. The hamlet of Intranges also has historical and religious heritage. Connangles can thus be explored from different perspectives: through its trails and landscape, as well as its architectural history and religious heritage.

Hiking to Rocks and Viewpoints

PR614 La Roche Martine is a moderately difficult, 10.1-kilometre circular hike starting from Connangles. The route leads to Les Faux, where the mysterious Roche Martine can be seen. The rock formation is about six metres high and twelve metres wide, and is naturally formed or partly composed. PR616 La Croix de Lavèze offers panoramic views of La Chaise-Dieu from the Croix de Lavèze. The two routes have different features: PR614 is described by its circular route, length and difficulty level, while PR616 is noted for its views of La Chaise-Dieu.

Landscape and Natural Attractions

Connangles borders the Lamandie Forest. Numerous hiking trails lead to natural attractions such as Roche Martine and Roche Bâtière in the Bois de Badou. The two rock formations can be distinguished by their locations: Roche Martine can be seen near Les Faux, while Roche Bâtière is in the Bois de Badou. As trail conditions can change, it is advisable to check their condition before setting out.

A single tree is also among the area's named natural landmarks. In March 2012, a century-old oak in the hamlet of Barlières received the French designation “Arbre remarquable de France” (Remarkable Tree of France). Together with the Lamandie Forest and the rock formations, it paints a picture of varied landscape features: a forest bordering Connangles, named natural attractions along hiking trails, and an award-winning oak in Barlières.

Church and Local History

The Church of Saint-Etienne in Connangles has a Romanesque apse and a Gothic nave. The two styles belong to different parts of the building: the apse is Romanesque, and the nave is Gothic. The church is also listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments. Connangles was a former priory of La Chaise-Dieu, mentioned in the 13th century. The church's architecture and its historical connection to La Chaise-Dieu thus represent two distinct aspects of local history.

In the hamlet of Intranges, 1.5 kilometres west of Connangles, there is a stone cross dating from 1080, which was restored in the 19th century. There is also a small reliquary shrine with three religious figures. These include a Black Madonna dressed in lace from Le Puy. The cross and shrine differ in both form and recorded details: the cross is associated with the year 1080 and its restoration in the 19th century, while the shrine is notable for its three figures and the dressed Black Madonna.
