The five steps leading down into the nave are an unusual feature of the Église Saint-Pierre. In Saint-Pierre-Eynac, tangible building history, a signposted circular trail, viewpoints and event dates offer different reasons to visit. You can plan your stay around architecture, the landscape or an event that suits your schedule.

Church and Château de Bonneville

The Église Saint-Pierre is a Romanesque church that was later altered. Its remarkable north portal is protected by an arch built in the 15th century. The church has been classified as a historic monument since 16 September 1907. A rare flight of five steps leads down into the nave.

An inscription at the Château de Bonneville gives 1326 as the year the castle was built. The grand salon was furnished under Louis XIV and is entirely lined with Cordoba leather depicting birds and foliage. The date of construction and the salon’s furnishings point to different historical periods. The château is partly classified as a historic monument and partly listed as a historic monument; its protection is partial.

Walking Trail and Landscape

The signposted PR191 circular trail, “Autour de Monac,” starts in Saint-Pierre-Eynac. It is 9.4 kilometres long and takes about three hours; the ascent is 361 metres and the descent 362 metres. For planning purposes, the approximate duration provides a time estimate alongside the distance; the elevation figures show the ascent and descent separately.

Near La Vierge, a path leads from the D 26 to a panoramic viewpoint. From the Falaise de la Vierge, the view extends across the Saint-Julien basin, the Mézenc plateau and the Devès range. The landscape also features contrasting landforms: Suc de Monac is a steep rise that dominates the landscape, while the volcanic hill of Peylenc overlooks a river landscape.

Visits to the Grottes de Peylenc are possible; great caution is advised.
