In Sansac-Veinazès, landscape and building history stand side by side as two distinct themes. The “Le Veinazès” walking trail is a clearly defined highlight; Saint-Martin and local building crafts offer further insights into the area.

Le Veinazès: a loop trail with views

Le Veinazès is an 8 km circular route that starts at the large car park in the town centre. Along the route, there are views of the Veinazès basin, Montsalvy and Puy de l’Arbre, as well as the Aubrac plateaus. The views therefore encompass several specific landscape features. When planning your day, you can consider the route length and the landscape vistas as separate points of reference. If you plan to use the trail, check the local information about the starting point before setting out.

Open landscape in the central town centre

In the central part of Sansac-Veinazès, two built-up areas are separated by farmland in a hollow. There are sightlines between them, while the view also extends to the old church and two manor houses. The fields, hollow and sightlines together shape the open character of the townscape. Unlike the landscape views along the walking trail, this perspective focuses on the layout of the central town centre and the visible historic buildings.

Saint-Martin: building phases and bell history

Saint-Martin Church has a distinctive bell-gable, typical of the region. Originally, the church consisted of a simple nave and a choir. The side chapels were added later, most recently around 1850, together with the adjoining sacristy. This makes it possible to trace the development from the original church building to later additions.

The bells, too, have their own history: during the French Revolution, the bell tower lost four bells. Three bells were later returned to it, though they were not necessarily the originals. The loss and return are part of the tower’s history; however, the returned bells cannot be identified with certainty as the ones that were there before.

Craftsmanship in the houses

The town’s history can also be seen in its houses. The roof frames and carpentry in the houses of Sansac-Veinazès were mainly carried out by the Couderc family, who lived in the hamlet of Croix-de-Pierre. Building history therefore extends beyond the church: in addition to the church’s construction phases, craftsmanship in residential buildings is also part of the town’s story. The details about the family and hamlet give this craftsmanship a specific local context.

The patron saint’s festival in July

Sansac-Veinazès’s patron saint’s festival takes place in July; the exact dates vary from year to year. The July 2026 programme included a doubles pétanque competition and a traditional méchoui. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates and programme for the relevant year.
