Le Falgoux offers a variety of ways to enjoy a stay: hiking trails with clearly stated distances and times, Biaguin Waterfall and historic details in the town centre. The options range from a tour of about two hours to a loop that takes four hours. When planning, you can first choose the trails and themes that suit your itinerary.
On foot: from the waterfall to the longer loop
Biaguin is a three-tiered waterfall in the forest of Le Falgoux. The upper waterfall is easily accessible from the D12 between Le Falgoux and Pont des Eaux and is protected by a railing. The lower section is described as more difficult. The hiking trail to Cascade du Biaguin starts in the hamlet of La Chaze, is marked in blue and is listed as 4 km long, with an approximate duration of two hours.
A longer option is the Sentier du Roc du Merle: the route starts at the church square in Le Falgoux, is 9.8 km long and takes four hours. From this trail, you can reach the summit of Roc du Merle at 1,344 m. The GR®-400 loop through the Cirque du Falgoux also starts and ends in Le Falgoux. The starting points, distances and durations distinguish these options, so the information can be used as a practical guide when planning your time.
Local history in the town centre
The Church of Saint-Germain in the town centre was built in 1904. Its carved wooden furnishings include choir stalls, a pulpit and a baptismal font. Another way to explore local history is the Le Falgoux war memorial: it was inaugurated on 16 September 1923, and two plaques bear the names of the commune’s war dead. The memorial and its paving were listed as a historic monument by decree dated 13 March 2019.
For tourist information, visit the Maison de Site du Falgoux. Admission is free; facilities include tourist information, activities, a shop and an exhibition area. The trail through the Mars Valley starts at the Maison de Site.
The Mars Valley, cycling and winter activities
The Mars River rises in the glacial cirque of Le Falgoux. Beech and fir trees grow on the slopes of the Mars Valley, and its forests are home to a very rich variety of flora and fauna. La Baladie starts in Tahoul and, after about 2 km, leads to a ridge with panoramic views over the Mars Valley. Use of this route depends on the weather.
A mountain biking route also leads to Le Falgoux: from Col d’Aulac, it descends steeply into the village and then follows the D12 towards Pas de Peyrol. In winter, when snow conditions are suitable, the Le Falgoux resort offers cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and sledging. These seasonal activities therefore depend explicitly on the prevailing snow conditions. If you are looking for accommodation for your stay, you can first decide whether hiking, cycling, local history or winter activities are your main focus.
