Yzeure combines Romanesque architecture and historic buildings with gardens, exhibitions and waterside leisure activities. To plan your stay, you can first decide whether culture, gardens or activities at the ponds should take centre stage.

Church and château: architecture in Yzeure

The Église Saint-Pierre is a Romanesque church with 12th-century façade ornamentation and a crypt dating from the 9th or 10th century. The nave and aisles contain 32 carved capitals from the 12th century. So there is more to see than just the façade: the details inside the church are also worth a look. The church is open for free visits every day from 9 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 4:45 pm; guided tours are available by arrangement. As visiting hours may change, check them before your trip.

The Château de Panloup offers a different architectural impression: this 17th-century building is made of polychrome brick and has towers topped with lanterns. Its grounds are freely accessible year-round; check the conditions on site before your trip. The château is also the starting point of the “Yzeure 2000” walking trail. This gives you the chance to admire a historic building and include a walk in your plans.

Gardens and exhibitions

The Parc de Bellecroix is a freely accessible 19th-century English-style park covering 17,000 square metres. Japanese maples and winding paths shape the grounds. Other notable features include groups of trees and shrubs, a grotto, a terrace and a remarkable house from the early 20th century. If you would like to learn more about the park’s history, you can do so on a guided tour.

Les rives du Danube offers a different mix of gardens: this freely accessible themed garden includes English-style areas, a rose garden and an iris collection. There is also a bamboo garden and an educational orchard. Comparing the two sites, the different character of their features stands out: Bellecroix combines park paths with historic features, while Les rives du Danube brings together several garden areas and collections. There is also an orienteering course there.

The Gallinothèque offers a distinctive cultural focus. It displays objects featuring images of roosters. The permanent exhibition is complemented by a themed temporary exhibition throughout the year. Admission is free; guided tours for groups are available by reservation. If you are visiting Yzeure with a group or want to plan your visit to the exhibitions, bear in mind that reservations are available.

Ponds and leisure activities

Several leisure activities come together at the Plan d'eau des Ozières. The site is designated a “Parcours Famille Pêche” (Family Fishing Trail); fishing is possible year-round with a fishing association permit. A fishing platform is suitable for wheelchair users. There is also a picnic area, a beach volleyball court, a walking path and play areas for children. Permanent orienteering courses, a Swin-Golf course and a zip line round out the facilities. Check the conditions for each facility before your visit; fishing regulations and required permits may change.

The Étang de Champvallier offers another fishing spot, with clearly specified dimensions: the site covers 13 hectares, of which 5 hectares are taken up by the fishing pond. Fishing is permitted there year-round with a suitable fishing permit. Parking is available nearby; the site is accessible to wheelchair users with assistance. Check the applicable rules and permit requirements before fishing. The size figures help distinguish this spot from the wide range of leisure facilities at the Plan d'eau des Ozières.

Visits to a beekeeper

At Miel d'Auvergne et du Bourbonnais, you can join a guided tour by arrangement. It covers bees, their environment and beekeeping products. During the season, visitors can also discover how honey is made and explore products from the hive. This visit adds an insight into beekeeping to the architecture, gardens and ponds on offer; plan ahead, as an appointment is required.

Choosing the focus of your stay

Guided tours by arrangement and fishing with a permit each have their own planning requirements. If you would like to combine several themes, take these requirements into account when planning your visits.
