A Romanesque nave, a wall bell tower modified in the Gothic period, and ochre-toned murals shape Laussou’s cultural highlights. A hiking trail that starts in the village, along with wine tastings and craft experiences, offer further reasons to visit. You can tailor your stay to focus on culture, landscapes or individual visits.

Église Saint-Pierre: Building history and murals

The Église Saint-Pierre is a Romanesque building and has been classified in its entirety as a historic monument since the protection order of 20 September 2006. The nave was partly rebuilt in the 13th century, and the wall bell tower was modified in the Gothic period. These phases of construction reflect changes across several eras.

The monumental murals also give the church a distinctive art-historical character. They date from the late 15th or early 16th century and use ochre tones. They are located in the nave and choir, but only some of the painted decoration has been uncovered. If you are interested in historic church art, the dating, colour palette and extent of preservation are three specific aspects to look out for.

Landscapes and hiking trail

The landscapes of Laussou lie entirely within the Collines de Guyenne landscape unit. A different, geographically limited perspective is offered by the Type I ZNIEFF, “Prairies Humides Des Vallees De La Lede, De La Leyze Et Du Laussou”: it covers less than one percent of the municipality’s area. This inventory classification may be updated by the relevant authorities. Thus, a broad landscape designation and a small, delineated ecological inventory area exist side by side.

The “Laurès, en route vers Envals” hiking trail starts in Laussou. Along its route, numerous paved sections alternate with views of landmarks in Monflanquin and Biron, as well as woodland that offers coolness in summer. This creates a variety of impressions along the way. Since trail conditions depend on maintenance, it is advisable to check the route before setting out.

Food and crafts

Les Tourtières de Sophie makes a sweet tourtière filled with cooked apples flavoured with plum brandy and rum. The pastry is stretched by hand until paper-thin. The tourtières are sold at the producer’s own property in Laussou; confirm the sales arrangements again before visiting.

At Domaine Rhodes Hautes, the offerings include tastings of red, rosé and white wines. Visits to the estate are available by prior appointment. This lets you plan a visit in advance rather than assuming that a tour will be available spontaneously.

Nouvelle Histoire makes handcrafted decorative items and tableware from recycled glass bottles. Guided visits are offered by prior appointment only. The theme combines design with the reuse of an everyday material; if you are interested, arrange a time in advance.
