Morcenx can be explored through a range of interests: historic buildings, walking trails, waterside activities and cultural events. When planning your stay, you can decide whether to focus on architecture and regional traditions, time outdoors or a specific cultural event. The differences between these options are tangible: they range from distinctive church architecture to an eight-kilometre circular trail and events held throughout the calendar year.

Heritage: the church and wooden arenas

The Église Saint-Vincent-de-Paul was dedicated to Saint Vincent de Paul in 1896. Its Romanesque-Poitou style is considered unique among the churches of the Landes. The dedication and architectural form offer different historical and architectural points of reference for a visit to the church.

The wooden arenas of Morcenx-la-Nouvelle showcase another facet of regional architecture. Their rectangular wooden structure combines the Landes’ traditional bullfighting culture with the region’s folk architecture. The arenas are also the last surviving examples of a generation of exceptional covered wooden amphitheatres in the Haute-Landes area. The combination of material, form and tradition makes them a clear contrast to the church architecture: here, the focus is not on a dedication and a Romanesque-Poitou style, but on a wooden venue with regional ties.

Those interested in architectural heritage will find more than a single architectural highlight in Morcenx. The church and the arenas each have their own distinctive character; you can visit both without conflating their different functions and traditions.

Walking trails and nature activities

The Circuit patrimonial de Morcenx is eight kilometres long, starts in the town centre and forms a circular route. It is accessible to everyone. Its length, starting point and circular layout give you clear guidance when choosing an activity: the trail is described as a loop that starts in the town centre.

At the Domaine de Moré, a pond with fishing platforms is the main attraction. A circular walk around the pond passes a spillway. The site offers several points of interest: you can take in the waterside setting, the facilities and the historic building as part of your experience of Morcenx.

At the Parcours de santé Nazères, there are four signposted circular trails through a municipal forest. The skatepark at the Distillerie features a pump track with easy-to-ride, closed-loop lanes and pronounced rises and dips. These two activities differ in their very design: Nazères has four marked loops, while the pump track is defined by its closed circuits and changes in elevation. This allows you to choose which activity best suits your planned stay based on the facilities themselves.

Cultural programme and cinema listings

The cultural season in Morcenx-la-Nouvelle runs throughout the calendar year, from January to December. The programme includes theatre, circus, music and dance for children and adults. This year-round approach provides a framework for the cultural offerings; individual events and schedules may change. If a particular performance is important to your trip, check the specific dates before planning your stay around it.

The Cinéma de Morcenx-la-Nouvelle also has an up-to-date programme and screening schedule. For a particular screening, consult the schedule for your travel dates. This lets you plan cultural events and cinema visits while leaving your other activity choices open.
