Sainte-Eulalie brings together Romanesque architecture, landscape and a cultural programme. The village church and Bonlieu Abbey represent different chapters of local heritage; a park, an orienteering course and a walking trail through the vineyards add to the cultural focus. Regular free concerts are also held. When planning, you can weigh up different interests: architecture and monastic history, outdoor activities, or a cultural programme whose dates you can check for your trip.
Location and landscape
At the regional level, Sainte-Eulalie lies at the eastern end of Entre-Deux-Mers, equidistant from the Garonne and Dordogne rivers. The Sainte-Eulalie plateau is bounded to the west by the Gua Valley. The location places the village within Entre-Deux-Mers; the Gua Valley adds a specific landscape feature. The regional setting and the plateau’s boundary are therefore two distinct geographical reference points.
Church and abbey
The village church is the oldest building in Sainte-Eulalie. Since it was built, the Romanesque church has had a nave with two aisles. This three-part layout can be described as a nave flanked by an aisle on each side, giving the period designation a specific architectural feature.
Bonlieu Abbey was founded in 1141 and belonged to the Cistercian Order. In the foundation charter, Sicaire undertook to build a monastery, a chapel and a hospital. Today, only a few traces of the former monastic buildings remain. The details highlight different aspects of its history: the founding year establishes when it began, the charter records the building commitment, and the few remaining traces describe what survives today.
Park and walking trails
The Parc de la Tour Gueyraud covers 10 hectares and offers peaceful nature for relaxation and sporting activities. It is freely accessible; check local conditions before travelling. The park also has an orienteering course with 50 markers. Their layout may change, so bear this in mind when preparing. The park and the orienteering course offer different ways to spend time there: peaceful relaxation on the one hand, and a specific sporting activity on the other.
Another way to experience the landscape is the Boucle du Greseau et de Baron. This partly urban walking trail runs through Sainte-Eulalie alongside a stream and through the vineyards of Entre-Deux-Mers. It starts at the car park of the Sainte-Eulalie sports complex. While the park offers relaxation and sporting activities, the Boucle is a walking trail alongside a stream and through vineyards. Facilities at the starting point may change; check local conditions before setting off.
Concerts at the Maison des Arts
The municipality regularly offers free concerts at the Maison des Arts in partnership with Le Rocher Palmer. As event dates may change, check the current programme for your travel period. This way, you can take this cultural offering into account when planning without assuming a particular concert date.
