Discover Saint-Aubin-de-Blaye through specific interests: a church with Romanesque features and a bell dating from 1606, art stops, and activities such as hiking and fishing. Two arrangements are important to make in advance: church visits are free and available by appointment only; you should also arrange participation in the Goujon Saint Aubinois fishing activities with the association in advance.
Protected area, woodland and hiking stage
Saint-Aubin-de-Blaye is part of the Natura 2000 protected area “Marais de Braud-et-Saint-Louis et de Saint-Ciers-sur-Gironde,” a Special Area of Conservation designated FR7200684. The hamlet of Champ des Cailles is also in Saint-Aubin-de-Blaye, in a wooded area.
Stage 1 of the FFRandonnée route passes through the town. It crosses the Canal des Moulins beside an 18th-century mill, then the Livenne. The canal, mill and river provide clear landmarks along the stage. Check trail conditions before setting out.
Church and art
The Église de Saint-Aubin de Blaye has retained its Romanesque character, with an old bell tower, a porch and three wood-panelled naves. A bell in the church was made in 1606 and has been listed as a protected object since 20 May 1988. A visit to the church offers a chance to see both its architectural features and a specific historical object. Visits are free, but available by appointment only; check the arrangements in advance.
For several years, the Sentiers des Arts has been a cultural and artistic gathering held in autumn, featuring works in Saint-Aubin as well. At the Saint-Aubin-de-Blaye stop on the Sentier des Arts, Mélanie Béguier’s work is behind the bakery. The Saint-Aubin section of the Sentier Street Art includes a work by Jean Rooble; follow the directions towards the medical centre. The City Stadium car park is one parking option. Check current parking conditions.
Fishing, walking and events
Goujon Saint Aubinois offers introductory fishing sessions and welcomes groups. Arrange participation with the association before your visit. Its fishing waters include the Bief du Canal des Moulins and the Livenne, the Étang de la Grande Lande fishing pond, and the Étang au Terrier de la Blanche. A fishing platform suitable for people with disabilities is also available; confirm local access conditions in advance.
For the 2025–2026 season, Gym Saint Aubin planned two Nordic walking groups on Wednesdays; poles were available to borrow for beginners. Ask about the current schedule and participation requirements. The local ACCA describes hunting as a traditional activity in Saint-Aubin-de-Blaye and holds a ball-trap event once a year in May. The afternoon is open to everyone from 2 p.m.; confirm the date and public arrangements locally.
