Le Haillan combines nature-focused exploration with a variety of cultural venues. In the Bois du Déhès and Parc du Ruisseau, educational trails explore different nature-related and local themes; a historic mill, a cultural center, and a combined library and toy library offer other highlights. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing between these attractions by their focus.

Green Spaces and Educational Trails

Within the Parc des Jalles in Le Haillan, the protected Natura 2000 area covers five hectares. There are streams, pines, and oaks; visitors can take walks and unobtrusively observe protected species. The Parc des Jalles as a whole spans 6,000 hectares and nine municipalities, including Le Haillan. The protected area in the town and the park that spans several municipalities therefore refer to different scales.

The Bois du Déhès is a five-hectare Natura 2000 site in the spring area of Le Haillan. Here, too, streams, maritime pines, and oaks shape the surroundings. The educational trail starts at the corner of Rue du Médoc and the cycle path. Illustrated, accessible panels and interactive activities introduce local biodiversity; these include listening to birdsong and looking for animal tracks.

The scale is different at Parc du Ruisseau: This four-hectare green space is crossed by a four-kilometer stream. Its self-guided educational trail explores former watercress cultivation, the history of Le Haillan, and the stream’s ecosystem. Compared with the focus on biodiversity at Bois du Déhès, this trail also connects nature topics with past land use and local history. As water quality improves, some small fish are returning to Parc du Ruisseau; frogs and dragonflies also thrive there.

Trails and Access

Le Haut-perché can only be reached on foot or by bicycle. From a possible parking area in the Sainte-Christine residential neighborhood, beside the Bordeaux–Lacanau cycle path, a 500-meter footpath leads through the Bois du Déhès to the site. Check access conditions before setting out, as they may be affected by fire-risk restrictions or operational changes.

In 2019, the Boucle verte became France’s first GR Métropolitain. The 160-kilometer marked long-distance trail passes through 17 municipalities and connects the main natural areas and urban parks of the metropolitan area. The route is therefore on a different scale from the educational trails within individual green spaces.

History and Culture

The Moulin du Moulinat is a mill typical of the Jalles area. It is said to have been first built around 1354 and renovated in the 18th century. In the 18th and 19th centuries, it was a watermill that ground mainly grain to supply Bordeaux. As of January 2026, the Moulin du Moulinat in the Bois du Déhès is awaiting renovation; Bordeaux Métropole is providing financial support for the project. Château de Bel-Air tells a different story: In 1986, it became an international soccer center and the home of the Football Club des Girondins de Bordeaux.

For a cultural program, L’Entrepôt offers a variety of options, including chanson, comedy, dance, theater, and music. The venue has 456 seats and can be set up for performances or film screenings. L’Entrepôt is accessible to people with disabilities and people with reduced mobility.

La LuBi combines a library and a toy library. Its collection includes more than 23,000 books, magazines, films, and games. Le Haillan thus offers different cultural focuses side by side: stage and film programs at L’Entrepôt, and a shared collection of media and games at La LuBi.
