Augignac offers a range of attractions for nature and culture enthusiasts: a six-metre-high formation of granite boulders, shady trails through the ponds of the Haut Périgord and a 12th-century church. Sport fishing and crafts add further local interests to the mix.

Trail options by distance and activity

The Boucle des Étangs is a 10.0-kilometre circular walking trail starting in Augignac. Shady trails lead through the ponds of the Haut Périgord. If you are looking for this landscape and shady trails in particular, the Boucle offers both.

The two Augignac-PAPSE routes start at the municipal stadium. They are 8 and 5 kilometres long, respectively. One of the routes is intended for hikers, Nordic walkers, runners and mountain bikers.

At 10.0 kilometres, the Boucle is longer than both PAPSE routes; it also differs in being a circular trail that passes through the pond landscape. PAPSE offers a choice of two shorter distances, and one of its routes is intended for hikers, Nordic walkers, runners and mountain bikers. This means you can take distance, trail type and activity into account when choosing.

The Augignac-PAPSE sports trail is also designed for Joëlettes. These enable people with motor disabilities, particularly lower-limb disabilities, to go hiking and trail running.

Parking, a water tap and toilet facilities are available at the starting point of the PAPSE routes by the municipal stadium. If you plan to use any of these facilities or a Joëlette, check the latest PAPSE information in advance.

Granite and pond landscape

Roche Eiside is an impressive, six-metre-high formation of stacked granite boulders and is freely accessible year-round. You can reach it via the Boucle des Étangs variant or from the foot of Augignac’s water tower. These are two specific access options: a trail variant and the area by the water tower.

The Étangs des Merles are dedicated entirely to sport fishing. Covering 40 hectares, they also provide a green setting for relaxation. This site therefore combines a clearly defined use with a landscape that also offers a place to unwind.

Church and crafts

The Église Saint-Martial d’Augignac dates from the 12th century and was restored in the 19th century. Its round-arched portal is adorned with two small granite columns and capitals; above it is a defensive tower with machicolations. The construction and restoration mark two distinct periods in the church’s history. The church is still used for religious purposes. Its good acoustics also make it suitable for classical concerts and choral performances.

At Symphonie Artisanat, you can visit Mme Florantin’s workshop, where porcelain, earthenware and ceramics are decorated. This complements the church’s architecture and history with a different cultural focus: the workshop centres on the decorative treatment of different materials.
