Falaise du Malpas, Pont Vieux and the Maison du Patrimoine reveal different sides of Terrasson-Lavilledieu: nature, medieval architecture and local heritage. There are also themed gardens, walking and mountain biking routes, and chocolate and truffles as culinary highlights. If you are planning a stay, these options can help you decide whether to focus on heritage, landscape or a particular activity.

Cliff and gardens

Falaise du Malpas is a natural cliff area more than 300 metres long. A path along the slope offers views from above. Those interested in landscapes and trails will find a clear point of reference here: the Terra Aventura route also follows the developed path along Falaise du Malpas. Route details may change; check them before setting out.

The Jardins de l'Imaginaire offer a different perspective. Their thirteen themed gardens explore the relationships between people, water and landscape. The gardens also include a remarkable viewpoint over the Vézère Valley. Together, the cliff and the landscaped gardens create distinct impressions: one focuses on a natural formation, the other on a deliberately designed landscape theme.

Architecture and town history

Pont Vieux was built by Benedictine monks in the 12th century. Its six arches combine Romanesque and pointed forms. This provides a concrete reference point when looking at the bridge: you can notice both the number of arches and their different designs. The Church of Saint Sour adds to the historical focus: it is listed as a historic monument.

The Maison du Patrimoine presents the heritage of the Pays du Périgord noir and commemorates the town. Visitors can see a Gallo-Roman mosaic from the 3rd century there. The Maison Bouquier offers another perspective on history, bearing witness to the influence of Terrasson-Lavilledieu in the 18th century. These three places therefore each have a different focus: a medieval structure, a monument, and evidence of regional and town history.

Routes by length and type

There are several clearly distinct options for a walk. The Boucle de la Vézère is an easy, family-friendly 10.8-kilometre circular walking route along the Vézère, with views of Terrasson-Lavilledieu’s old town along the way. The shorter “Terra sunt, ou l'or de Sorus” route is also easy and family-friendly: it covers 1.5 kilometres through the old town. Comparing the route lengths can help you choose between a longer riverside loop and a short route through the historic centre.

There is also a Boucle de la Vézère mountain bike loop. This easy, family-friendly route is 12.1 kilometres long, follows the Vézère and offers views of the old town. It differs from the walking route of the same name in its mode of transport and stated length. The Terra Aventura route at Falaise du Malpas, in turn, follows the developed path along the cliff area; check the route details before setting out.

Chocolate and truffles

A visit to the Musée du Chocolat Bovetti offers insight into work on cocoa plantations and the processing of the raw ingredient. The visit also includes a tasting of Bovetti creations. Children make a chocolate mould to take home. As visitor experiences may change, check in advance whether tastings and mould-making are available during your visit.

A seasonal culinary destination is the truffle market in Terrasson-Lavilledieu: from November to February, it offers direct sales of local truffles on Thursday mornings. Check the seasonal information before your trip. Alongside the buildings and landscape themes described as year-round attractions, there are also specific experiences available for a limited time.
