Groléjac offers several distinct ways to plan a stay: as a starting point for routes along the Dordogne, as a destination for water activities at Roc Percé, and as a natural landscape with the Marais de Groléjac. The Église Saint-Léger provides a historical point of interest. When looking for accommodation, it helps to first decide on your main interests and travel dates: the options differ in their routes, seasonality and current accessibility.

Routes along the Dordogne

The Voie Verte, known as the Promenade Périgord-Quercy, was built along the route of a former railway line. Its starting point in Groléjac is near the Dordogne. From there, the route crosses the river and reaches Sarlat-La-Canéda after 7.5 kilometres. This gives Groléjac and Sarlat a direct route connection.

The long-distance hiking trail GR 64B follows a different route. West of La Mouline, it branches off the GR 64 in Groléjac, crosses the Dordogne on the bridge of the former railway line, and then continues north of Carsac-Aillac to join the GR 64A. The Promenade focuses on the connection with Sarlat, while the GR 64B route is shaped by its branch from the GR 64 and its connection to the GR 64A.

Water activities at Roc Percé

The Plan d’eau du Roc Percé covers 15 hectares. Swimming in the lake is supervised in July and August. Pedal boating and windsurfing are also possible; their availability may vary by season. The Explorando canoe base offers canoe and kayak trips starting in Groléjac. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between the set period with lifeguard supervision, the seasonal activities on the lake, and the excursions whose current availability you can check directly with the provider.

Marais de Groléjac and its natural environment

At the end of the lake, where the Mouline flows in, the Marais de Groléjac is a wooded wetland with an elevated nature trail. The area includes a 1.2-kilometre elevated boardwalk, benches and information panels. The nature reserve is currently closed to the public for safety reasons. Check access shortly before your planned visit.

An environmental survey from June 2025 describes the section of the ZNIEFF Dordogne périgourdine located in Groléjac as having diverse floodplain habitats. Notable species include the dragonfly Oxygastra curtisii, the European otter (Lutra lutra) and the peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus). For this survey, it lists the area under the Habitats Directive as an SAC, SCI and pSCI and places it in the core zone of a biosphere reserve. Water rails, snipes, siskins and bitterns may be found in the Marais, particularly in winter.

A historical point of interest

The Église Saint-Léger adds a specific cultural heritage site to the routes and natural landscapes. It is protected as a historic monument by designation under the protection order of 12 October 1948. Groléjac brings together different travel interests, though they do not all follow the same seasonal or access conditions: some water activities are seasonal, and the Marais is currently closed to the public.
