Griesheim-Près-Molsheim appeals to a range of travel interests: the Sentier Botanique runs along the Rosenmeer valley, a continuous cycle path passes through the village, and its origins date back to the 9th century. There are also religious buildings, regional cuisine, a cheese dairy and a flea market on 1 May. When deciding where to go, you can weigh up whether a walk, a cycling route or local history should be the focus of your stay.

A walk along the Rosenmeer

Visitors can discover almost 200 species of trees and plants on the Sentier Botanique de Griesheim. The botanical trail runs along the Rosenmeer valley and is described as a family-friendly walking route with no particular difficulties. It is partially accessible with a pushchair; take this limitation into account when planning if you will be using one. A small visitor guide to the trail is available at Griesheim-Près-Molsheim town hall.

The trail has a clear focus on plants and walking. Those interested in this can experience the village in a different way from taking a cycling route that passes through several municipalities. Its partial accessibility with a pushchair is a specific detail to consider when choosing a suitable walk.

A cycling route through several places

The continuous cycle path runs through Rosheim, Griesheim-Près-Molsheim, Innenheim, Blaesheim, Geispolsheim, Ostwald and Strasbourg. The cycle path between Griesheim-Près-Molsheim and Innenheim connects the Piémont sector with Strasbourg. Alongside the local walking trail, there is therefore a route beyond the village that places Griesheim within a cycling connection linking several of the named places. If you are planning a ride, check current route conditions.

Church buildings and local history

The origins of Griesheim-Près-Molsheim date back to the 9th century. In 1570, after converting to Lutheranism, the Landsberg family introduced Protestantism to the village. Its history can thus be traced chronologically from its early origins, through this turning point, to later building phases.

The surviving part of the first church now serves as a cemetery chapel. Its choir is the former sacristy, built in 1685; the vault of the cemetery chapel has been preserved in its original condition. The former parish church of Saint-Alexis also now serves as a chapel. Building phases of the parish church date to 1624, 1685, 1724, 1742 and 1836. This architectural history offers a distinct focus for travellers interested in the development of religious buildings.

Regional cuisine and cheese

The Auberge de la Chèvrerie serves modern regional cuisine, prepared on site using fresh seasonal produce. If you are including a meal in your day’s plans, check the current menus and service arrangements in advance.

La Chèvrerie is a cheese dairy that sells goat’s cheese made on site. Its range includes fresh, matured, coated and smoked cheese. The varieties available for sale may change.

A flea market on 1 May

In its January 2025 newsletter, the fire brigade association announced a flea market held annually on 1 May. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the date for the relevant year locally.

The walking trail is a local highlight, while the cycling route covers several places; the history of the church buildings offers another distinct perspective on Griesheim-Près-Molsheim.
