Pomarkku offers public swimming beaches, natural attractions and local history. There’s something for everyone, from water activities and a peatland landscape to a museum and wooden church; the old railway station also offers accommodation with three rooms and ten beds. The distinctions below can help you tailor your trip to your interests.

Swim at two public beaches

The public beach at Pikku-Valkjärvi offers swimming and other water activities. Another public beach is located in Kylänlahti, in the church village of Pomarkku; swimming and other water activities are available there too. Check the seasonal conditions and maintenance of the beaches.

Peatland, lake and fishing

The Isoneva peatland lies four kilometres from Pomarkku in the direction of Pori, along National Road 23. An easy-to-walk boardwalk runs through the peatland and features several information boards as well as a birdwatching tower. There is a large car park at the start of the trail. Isoneva therefore offers a distinct nature experience, with points of interest along the way.

Lake Isojärvi is the largest lake area in North Satakunta. Its many islands and impressive scenery invite visitors to relax and enjoy nature. Another nature-focused activity is fishing for rainbow trout in a wilderness-like setting at the Kynäsjoki fishing permit area, maintained by Pomarkun Kalajussit ry.

Cross-country skiing in winter

Pomarkku’s well-maintained cross-country ski trails are suitable for both classic and freestyle skiing. Snow and trail-grooming conditions vary, so check them seasonally when planning your skiing.

Museum and historic sites

The Pomarkku Local History Museum is housed in the former village school in Kirkonkylä. Its collection includes everyday items, household and cooking utensils, and supplies for handicrafts, hunting and fishing. The exhibition was renewed in summer 2020. The museum offers digital tours through the eMuseo service, with content for adults and children.

Pomarkku’s old wooden church was built in 1802. Its unique wall paintings and pulpit were preserved during restoration; the church is also part of the Wayside Churches network. A historic escape cave dating from the 17th century is located on the island of Plootuluoto. The church and cave offer different historical perspectives: architectural history and wall paintings in one place, and a cave with its own story in the other.

The old railway station as accommodation

The old railway station was converted into modern accommodation in 2010. The building has three rooms with a total of ten beds, an equipped kitchen, shower and sauna facilities, and two toilets. The accommodation is also suitable for people with reduced mobility. Opening for visitors is seasonal, so check the schedule before finalising your plans.
