Pirunpesä, trails of varying lengths, and local stories give a visit to Yli-Valli a range of possible focuses. In the rocky terrain of Isovuori, in the village of Ylivalli, lies the round opening of Pirunpesä. Visitors who want to explore natural formations and learn more about places in the area can plan their visit around these specific themes.
Pirunpesä and the rocky landscape
The round opening is 14 meters in diameter and 23 meters deep. These measurements describe both its width and the depth of the cavity. Stairs lead to the bottom; the cavity is fenced in. Check the current conditions on site before planning your visit.
The Pirunpesä area is also home to Kollinluola, a naturally formed cavity. A massive, flat stone slab leans against the rock there, forming a roof and a wall. From a nearby observation tower, you can view Pirunpesä’s rocky depression from above. This offers a chance to focus not only on the opening itself, but also on its shape and position in the terrain.
Trails to suit your plans
A guided nature trail connects Juustoportti and Pirunpesä. Different lengths are given depending on how you travel the route: 7.5 kilometers on foot and 8.5 kilometers by bicycle.
A separate trail runs for 1 kilometer around the Pirunpesä area. The two trail options therefore differ both in length and in whether they connect Juustoportti with Pirunpesä or run around the area.
Stories tied to places
A statue erected in the Pirunpesä area in June 2005 commemorates Spede Pasanen and his contribution to clearing out Pirunpesä. At Paimenpojan mänty, the story is told of a shepherd boy who died at the foot of the tree in the 1850s. These two places connect the landscape with different aspects of local history.
Navettavuori also has a story of its own. It is located along Kihniöntie, where various events have been held. The trails, natural formations, and stories tied to these places offer different ways to shape a stay in Yli-Valli.
