Nastola offers natural areas with different types of trails and cultural sites whose history dates back to the 18th century. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing between marked hiking trails, individual accessible trail sections, historic buildings and seasonal offerings. This will help you decide whether to make nature, culture or physical activity the focus of your stay.

Trails and Protected Areas

The Lapakiston suojelualue nature reserve covers 230 hectares. It borders the shore of Pitkäjärvi to the west, Ahvenlampi to the north and the shore of Kalliojärvi to the east. Five marked hiking trails add up to 23 kilometres. For a specific starting point, an accessible path leads from the car park on Ristikankaantie to a campfire site; there is also a dry toilet at the car park. The protected area has five campfire sites and one lean-to shelter. As conditions at the facilities may change seasonally, it is a good idea to check their status before setting out.

At 22.33 hectares, Sammalsillansuo is considerably smaller. A boardwalk about 600 metres long runs through the nature reserve, connecting to Sammalsillantje at both ends. An accessible nature trail also leads north from Sammalsillantie to the shore of Sylvöjärvi, where there is a birdwatching tower. The sites offer different points of reference when choosing: in Lapakisto, it is the network of marked trails; in Sammalsillansuo, it is the boardwalk and the trail running north. Area figures and trail descriptions answer different questions about the size of an area and the specific trail options available.

Church, Culture and Local History

Nastolan kirkko is a wooden cruciform church completed in 1804. The bell tower has an older history: it was originally built before 1760 and moved to its current location in 1804. The church and tower therefore have two different historical dates. The year 1804 refers to the completion of the church and the relocation of the tower, not its original construction.

Taidekeskus Taarasti, a versatile cultural centre in Nastola, is located on the shore of Pikku-Kukkasjärvi. The exhibition hall covers 240 square metres. There is also a covered stage with an audience area, suitable for concerts and other events. The exhibition hall and stage serve different purposes within the cultural centre. If a particular concert or event is central to your visit, check the current schedule.

At Immilänkosket, the former sites of watermills are reminders of local history. The oldest frame saw there was already operating in the 1770s. In summer, the site has the Myllykahvila café, exhibitions and various events. Popular examples in recent years include open-air concerts and Myllyjazz; this reference to recent years describes the more recent event series and does not necessarily indicate the current programme. The café is a seasonal offering. Check current opening arrangements before visiting.

Sports in Pajulahti

If you would like to include physical activity in your plans, Pajulahti offers a wide range of indoor and outdoor sports. They cater to people of all ages and different ability levels, and are suitable for groups as well as individuals. The offerings include an adventure park and StarJump. These examples give an idea of the range; individual activities may change. So check which offerings are currently available before making plans.

Nastola can be explored through a range of interests: its natural areas differ in their trails and points of reference, while its church, cultural centre and mill sites cover different historical and cultural themes. Pajulahti adds indoor and outdoor sports to the mix. If your visit depends on seasonal offerings or specific activities, it is worth checking the latest information before travelling.
