Nature and birdlife

Tissinghuse is well suited to a trip focused on nature watching, walking routes and the history of a place on the Limfjord. Nearby Tissing Vig lies entirely within Natura 2000 site No. 28, “Agger Tange, Nissum Bredning, Skibsted Fjord and Agerø”. The inlet has become an important bird area for several species of ducks and waders. If you are interested in birdwatching, this makes it a specific reason to include Tissinghuse in your travel plans.

The development of the landscape is also part of the area’s story: the wetland project aimed to restore Tissing Vig as a shallow freshwater lake surrounded by meadows. This means that both the inlet’s importance for birds and the intended relationship between open water and meadows are central to understanding the area.

Paths by the water and through the inlet

A hiking trail runs along the southern dike of Tissing Vig, from Tissinghuse to Nørå. A bird hide on the embankment towards Søndervig is located on the trail through Tissing Vig. This offers different points of reference for planning your outings: a route with named endpoints and a bird hide along the path through the area. There is also a large car park and a fishing pier on the southwestern side of the inlet at Tissinghuse.

Another option is the “Serupsvej” III circular route. It is 4 km long, takes about an hour and runs along the beach and small roads. Unlike the route from the southern dike to Nørå, this is a circular route with an estimated duration. Route details may change, so check the current route before setting out.

The section of the coastal route between Nees and Thissinghus can also be described by its waypoints: it passes through Thissingvig and Ă…lekistevej to the water, then continues along Serupsvej. This route, with its named places and roads, can be contrasted with the Serupsvej III circular route, for which a distance and duration are provided.

VIF Mors offers paddleboards and sit-on-top kayaks for booking. After booking, you will receive a code for the container and can then head out onto the fjord by board or kayak. If you plan to use this option, check availability when booking.

Local history and accommodation

Tissinghuse is an old trading post on the Limfjord that developed around a merchant’s estate following the adoption of the Business Freedom Act of 1857. The history of the landing place also reflects a change: a marina was established in Tissinghuse from 1973; before that, the site was a landing place or ferry stop. The trading post and the development of the harbour add a historical perspective to planning nature outings and walks.

There is a shelter and tent site at Thissinghus Havn, a little west of the merchant’s estate in Thissinghus. If you are considering staying there, check availability before your trip. When looking for a holiday apartment, you could first consider whether you plan to focus mainly on birdlife, walking routes or local history; these interests offer a practical starting point for choosing your destination.
