For a stay in Mou, you can choose between different points of interest: the architectural history of Mou Church, Sommersang, a recurring summer event, and nature experiences in the surrounding area. Mou Beach is on the Limfjord near Mou and Mou Marina; Lille Vildmose offers viewpoints and trails nearby. Consider whether you would prefer to plan your visit around the event, the beach or independent explorations of the moorland.
Church and Sommersang
Mou Church is whitewashed and roofed with tiles. Its Gothic nave dates from the first half of the 15th century; an extension was added on the north side in the 18th century. The dates refer to different parts of the building and therefore mark two construction phases. The Gothic nave and later extension thus meet within the same church building.
Every summer, people gather for Sommersang in the church forest near Mou Church. The parish's two musicians play and sing for a community singalong beneath the green tree canopies. The event takes place at Dokkedalvej 10B, Mou, 9280 Storvorde. Check the date before travelling: the tradition recurs in summer, but dates may change.
Before Sommersang, Mou Spejderne opens a stand selling coffee and homemade pastries. The offer is tied to the event and may vary from year to year. If this is important to your plans, time your visit to coincide with the relevant Sommersang date rather than expecting refreshments to be available year-round.
Beach on the Limfjord and marina
Mou Beach is on the Limfjord near Mou and Mou Marina. The beach and marina are separate places to visit: the beach is on the fjord, while the marina has a slipway. In addition, Mou Marina lends bicycles to visiting boaters on request. If you are arriving by boat and plan to use bicycles, ask about the service in advance; marina services may change.
Moorland in the surrounding area
Lille Vildmose is designated as a 7,824-hectare Natura 2000 site. Near Mou, the area offers observation towers, platforms, viewpoints, as well as trails and routes for independent nature experiences. This gives you a choice of both individual viewpoints and ways to explore on your own. Visitor facilities may change; check the current options before making specific plans.
The Lille Vildmose Centre presents the natural and cultural values of the moor. Its facilities include exhibitions and films, as well as activities for learning and play focused on wildlife and nature. For exploring the area, there are guides for independent visits and the option to book guided tours. This lets you choose between finding your own way and a guided format. As visitor services may change, check the current offering before making plans.
