Elsegårde offers several concrete starting points for planning your trip: the Ahl Route passes through the town, coastal features take centre stage at Elsegårde Beach, and Elsegårde Skov brings together landscape history and plant life. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether cycling or nature themes at the beach and in the forest should be the focus of your stay. Depending on whether you would rather get a sense of a route or explore landscape details, different aspects will matter.

Cycling on the Ahl Route

The Ahl Route is approximately 18 km long and passes through Elsegårde. It runs along small roads and paved cycle paths. For planning purposes, its length and surfaces answer different questions: the approximate distance gives you an idea of the route’s overall length, while the types of path describe where it runs. If you would like to include cycling in your stay, you can take both into account when making your choice. This makes it possible to assess the route based on specific features rather than its name alone.

Beach and coastal geology

At Elsegårde Beach, there is sandy, nutrient-poor soil left behind after the sea level fell. Sandy and nutrient-poor describe two properties of the same soil: its texture and nutrient content. Shells are easy to find there. Flint and limestone fragments, brought here from Norddjursland, are also found. Soil formation and the origin of the stones raise different questions: how did the coastal landscape change, and where did the rock fragments come from? If you are interested in coastal geology, you can explore the beach through both its soil composition and its shells and rocks.

Elsegårde Skov

Elsegårde Skov lies along a former coastline dating from the Stone Age. A total of 120 herbaceous plant species have been recorded in one part of the forest. The former coastline places the forest in its landscape-history context, while the species count focuses on the plant life in a specific section of the forest. In contrast to the beach, where soil, shells and rock fragments can be found, the forest’s former coastal location and plant life take centre stage. The beach and forest therefore offer different nature themes: coastal geology and finds on the one hand, and historic landscapes and herbaceous plants on the other. Herbaceous plants typically have non-woody stems; the term distinguishes them from shrubs and trees and draws attention to a particular growth form rather than to plant life as a whole.

Accommodation and local setting

Elsegårde Camping is 500 metres from the beach and the Kattegat, on the edge of a cosy village with a village pond. This means that both the coastal location and the village setting are central to the campsite.
