The art venues in Videbæk range from a museum collection of paintings and ceramics to artworks around the town. There are also walking routes ranging from 3.3 to 8.6 kilometres. This gives art and landscape two distinct roles in a stay in Videbæk Municipality.
Art in the museum, the pavilion and around Videbæk
The Arne Haugen Sørensen Museum is located by the lake, at the western end of Videbæk Lystanlæg. The Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon is right next door. Two dates tell the story of the buildings: the pavilion dates from 2012, and the museum was added as an extension in 2017.
The museum collection includes paintings, watercolours, prints, sculptures, ceramics and models for altarpieces. The Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon features contemporary art by Danish and international artists. The neighbouring buildings therefore offer different focuses: one houses a collection of works in a variety of forms, while the other focuses on contemporary art from Denmark and abroad.
The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Check the opening hours before your visit. You can also encounter art outside the buildings: the Kunstruten is a walk through Videbæk that takes in numerous artworks. These include “V”, a red iron sculpture by Per Arnoldi in a roundabout, which is considered a landmark of Videbæk. At least 32 artworks can be experienced around the town; the number may change as works are added or removed.
Routes through stream landscapes and heathland
The Naturstien in Videbæk is 8.6 kilometres long. It crosses a boardwalk along the Videbæk Bæk stream and passes through the Aboretet. The stream and boardwalk give this route a different character from the paths through open heathland.
The Hundelufter-Rute is shorter, at 3.3 kilometres. It includes a fenced dog forest where dogs can run free, and the route also passes through Videbæk’s disc golf area. So if you are considering this loop, it offers both an area for dogs to run off leash and a section through the disc golf area.
The Herborg Bakker route is 4.1 kilometres long and passes through Herborg Bakker, a protected heathland. Den gamle bane follows a paved former railway line before continuing on a gravel path through Herborg Bakker.
Compare route length and character
The distances make it easier to choose based on how far you want to walk: the Hundelufter-Rute is 3.3 kilometres, Herborg Bakker 4.1 kilometres and the Naturstien 8.6 kilometres. The first two distances are close, while the Naturstien is more than twice as long as the Herborg Bakker route. This gives you a starting point for comparing distances when planning. The stream and boardwalk characterise the Naturstien, the fenced dog forest the Hundelufter-Rute, and the protected heathland the Herborg Bakker route.
Playgrounds in Videbæk and fishing at Lystanlæg
The “Kun for børn” route leads to playgrounds in Videbæk. These include playgrounds at schools and kindergartens that are open for public use. The route name and its playground destinations offer a distinct focus alongside art visits and longer walks.
You can fish at Videbæk Lystanlæg without a fishing licence. Seasonal restrictions may apply, so check the current conditions before fishing. This means you can combine a visit to the park with this activity, while the art venues, walking routes and playground route each appeal to different interests.
