Søndervig has been a popular seaside resort since the 19th century. The North Sea beach, high dunes and fine sand shape this stretch of coast. The range of activities also extends from cycling and sand sculptures to water and sports activities. This gives you a chance to weigh up different interests when planning your trip, rather than judging Søndervig by just one attraction.
North Sea Beach and Dunes
Søndervig Beach combines the North Sea coast with high dunes and fine sand. A 200-metre-long paved path gives wheelchair users, visitors with pushchairs and people with walking difficulties access to the beach. The Badepunkt label highlights good bathing conditions, high water quality and a focus on safety. The landscape, access and bathing conditions therefore offer different points of reference for your beach visit; the label applies to the beach.
Cycling: Long-Distance Route and Bike Station in Town
National Cycle Route 4, “Danmark på Tværs” (N4), is 310 kilometres long and runs from Søndervig in the west to Copenhagen in the east. Its length and two endpoints provide a clear west-to-east orientation for planning a cycling trip. A different connection to the town is offered by the “Fjorden rundt” cycle route, which has a bike station in Søndervig. N4 is therefore a long route between two endpoints, while the station on the other route marks a specific cycling connection in town.
Water and Indoor Activities at Lalandia
The Lalandia Aquadome in Søndervig is a large tropical water park with water slides, hot pools, a sauna, a wave pool and children’s areas. It has indoor and outdoor areas. At least three trained lifeguards supervise the water activities. Booking admission in advance secures access on your chosen day; day visitors can also buy a ticket at the entrance. You can therefore plan your visit in advance for a selected day or simply go as a day visitor.
Children can also enjoy Monky Tonky Land at Lalandia Søndervig, a large indoor play area with numerous activities. Day visitors are welcome too. As access rules may change, it is worth checking the current conditions before your visit. Aquadome and Monky Tonky Land have different focuses: one offers a range of water activities, while the other is an indoor play area for children.
Golf and Other Active Activities
Holmsland Klit Golfklub – Søndervig offers a main course and a par-3 course. The par-3 course is flat and easy to walk and can be played by everyone. Tee times can be booked directly for both the main course and the par-3 course. As course details may change, check them before booking.
Søndervig Fodboldgolf focuses on football golf and other football activities for families. Both spontaneous visits and planned football events are welcome. Funbikes Søndervig offers a track for recreational vehicles as holiday entertainment for children and adults. These activities differ in what they offer: you can choose between football activities and a track with recreational vehicles.
Sand Sculptures and Bunkers
The Søndervig Sand Sculpture Festival is an annual open-air art museum in the coastal dunes. Sand sculptors transform a 200-metre-long and 7-metre-high sand wall into an art installation featuring ten unique solo sculptures. A large sandpit is also open throughout the festival season, where children and adults can build their own sand sculptures. Large-scale artworks and the chance to create your own are therefore both on offer. Check the dates for the festival taking place during your travel period.
North of Søndervig, there are remnants of old bunkers. The Houvig bunker complex offers several guided tour options. This adds historic sites and guided tours as a distinct focus alongside the beach, art and leisure activities.
