When planning a trip to Trebenice, two questions take centre stage: would you like to explore the landscape along the right bank of the Dalešická Reservoir on foot or by bike, and do local festival dates fit your travel dates? Hiking and cycling are particularly recommended in the landscape along the right bank. Viewpoints overlooking the water, botanical highlights and the Chapel of Sts Cyril and Methodius add different perspectives to the natural attractions.

Trails, views and water

Maintained trails and cycling routes run along the entire right bank of the Dalešická Reservoir. Elevated viewpoints offer views across the reservoir. The trails and viewpoints offer different highlights: one is about getting active along the shore, the other about looking out across the water. If you are planning a trip, check the current route and trail conditions, as the route infrastructure may change.

Fishing is another option at the reservoir: the Dalešická Reservoir is designated as the JIHLAVA 7-8 fishing area. If you would like to fish, check the current fishing regulations beforehand. The fishing-area designation adds another activity to the hiking and cycling options, but does not replace planning for them.

Cycling route through Trebenice

The 51 km “Okolí vodní nádrže Dalešice” cycling route passes through Trebenice, Plešice and Chroustov. From Trebenice, it continues via Plešice and Chroustov along road III/35122 to Stropešín. For planning your ride, the total distance and named places give an overview of the route, while the specified sections provide more detail about local connections.

From the Žleb signpost, an unmarked trail leads to Trebenice. This section is also part of the route described. Check the current route information before setting out, especially if you plan to connect individual sections. The 51 km refers to the entire cycling route; the details about Žleb and Stropešín describe individual sections, not their respective lengths.

Plants and landscape

A small forest clearing near the village is home to three endangered plant species: sněženka předjarní, as well as the critically endangered šafrán karpatský and ladoňka dvoulistá. The cadastral area of Trebenice includes botanically interesting places with rare plant species, including brambořík nachový, lilie zlatohlávek, lomikámen cibulkatý and others. For those interested in botany, these offer a distinct natural attraction alongside the trails and views of the reservoir.

Chapel and local festivals

The Chapel of Sts Cyril and Methodius is a small Baroque-Classical chapel dating from the 18th century. Inside, there is a painting with a Cyrillo-Methodian theme and a sculptural group of Saints Cyril and Methodius. The chapel also has a room built into the ground with a well. These architectural details give the site a clear cultural significance alongside its natural setting.

The Cyril and Methodius pilgrimage festival (Cyrilometodějská pouť), together with the “zaváděním po vsi”, takes place every year on 5 July. It is preceded by a Mass on the village square by the chapel. If you would like to plan your trip around this date, check the latest event dates in advance.

Other recurring festivals also shape the events calendar: in January, the local hunting association (Myslivecké sdružení) organises the traditional hunting ball (Myslivecký ples). The women’s association (Svaz žen) organises Children’s Day on the Saturday closest to 1 June, with spit-roasted piglet and children’s competitions. The events are spread throughout the year, offering different occasions to consider when planning your trip.

Location and history

Trebenice lies southeast of Třebíč on the Třebíč–JE Dukovany route, about 11 km from Třebíč. This approximate distance gives an idea of the village’s location in the region. Historically, Trebenice belonged to Holoubek Castle. After the castle fell into disrepair after 1440, Trebenice became part of the Valeč estate.
