Historic local landmarks and named excursion routes offer two different ways to plan a trip to Pálovice. The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk stands on the village square; three routes pass through Pálovice and link their itineraries with Jemnice. When making your choice, it is worth considering both: the chapel and rural house represent the area’s architectural heritage, while the routes differ in length and the places they pass through.
Local History and Architectural Heritage
Pálovice was first mentioned in writing in 1349; from 1606, the village belonged to Jemnice. These details mark different historical reference points: an early written mention and a later affiliation with Jemnice. This makes it possible to distinguish the timeline of local history from the buildings described below.
The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk is a distinctive building on the village square in Pálovice. It is detached, has a single nave and is Neo-Gothic; it was built in the 19th century. These three terms describe different features: “detached” refers to its position as a building, “single-nave” to its basic layout, and “Neo-Gothic” to its style. Alongside its dedication, the chapel therefore has a clear architectural profile. Pálovice is also home to an architecturally valuable rural house dated 1877. This provides a complement to the religious building in the form of rural residential architecture. The date on the house is also a specific point of reference, whereas the chapel is placed within the broader timeframe of the 19th century.

Excursion Routes by Length and Itinerary
The three excursion routes can be compared by length and itinerary. The 18 km “Výlet do pohádky” (Fairytale Trip) runs from Jemnice via Pálovice, Panenská and Bělčovice, then back to Jemnice via Pálovice. “Údolím Dyje” (Dyje Valley) covers 37 km and runs via Louka, Třebětice, Chlumec, Janov and Panenská to Pálovice, then back to Jemnice. The 47 km “Lehké opevnění v údolí Dyje” (Light Fortifications in the Dyje Valley) route runs from Jemnice via Pálovice, Panenská and Janov, then via Písečné nad Dyjí, Vratěnín, Uherčice, Lubnice, Bačkovice and Radotice back to Jemnice. Panenská appears in all three itineraries; the other named stops differ. There are 29 km between the shortest and longest routes, and the 37 km tour falls between them in length. When choosing, you can therefore consider two criteria side by side: the length of the route and the place names included in its itinerary. The middle-length tour is 19 km longer than the 18 km route and 10 km shorter than the 47 km route.
You can also reach Pálovice from Jemnice on cycle route 5220. Check local conditions before setting out.
