Markovka and Mikulovická hora give Mikulovice a distinct landscape. The stream rises below the hill and flows into the Jihlava as a tributary. Slavický potok is also part of the local waterways: it rises in the southeast of the municipality and flows into the Markovka. The watercourses can thus be traced through their respective sources and the named connections between them. Slavický potok flows into the Jihlava via the Markovka.

Landscape and Geographical Setting

Geomorphologically, Mikulovice lies in the Jaroměřická kotlina subunit, within the Jevišovická pahorkatina geomorphological region and the Českomoravská vrchovina area. These three names place the village at different scales: subunit, region and area. This broader geographical classification complements the immediate features of the local landscape. Mikulovická hora is considered the most significant geomorphological feature of the surrounding landscape.

Mikulovická hora is predominantly forested. The only area without continuous woodland is around the quarry. A deforested rise adjoins the hill; it has pastures, a meadow and an orchard on barren ground with rock outcrops. The predominantly wooded hill and the open rise are therefore two distinct parts of the landscape.

A Glimpse into Local History

The first written mention of Mikulovice dates to 1348. Before the village was later incorporated into Sádek and then Lesonice, it was an independent estate. The two details complement each other chronologically: 1348 is an early written reference point, while the incorporations outline the later sequence of affiliations. Together, they offer a brief introduction to the area’s history alongside its geographical setting. The streams and hills provide tangible landmarks in the landscape; the year 1348 marks an early point in its history.

Activities and Reasons to Visit

A children’s playground has a slide, swings, a climbing wall and a sandbox. Swimming is also possible in a fire pond. These offer different options for planning your day: specific playground facilities and a place to swim. If either is important for your stay, check its current availability before visiting.

A cycling route leads to Mikulovice, where you can visit the local natural swimming pool. This combination of a bike ride and a possible swim gives the route a clear focus. It adds an activity to the local offerings in which the ride itself is part of the outing.

Traditional pilgrimage celebrations at the hill near the multi-purpose sports ground were announced for 2026. They include entertainment and refreshments. If the celebrations are relevant to your trip, check the exact event date in advance.
