Kožichovice offers visitors several specific points of interest: the Hluboček Nature Reserve, a chapel above a spring, local memorials and the annual “Běh Matyáše Žďárského” race. You can plan your stay around different interests: nature and a hiking route, local history or a specific event.
Nature Reserve and Hiking Route
The Hluboček Nature Reserve covers 2.203 hectares and was first designated on 20 October 1983; it lies within the cadastral area of Kožichovice. Hluboček is home to a growing site of the two-leaf squill (Scilla bifolia). This natural landscape feature thus combines a precisely defined protected area with a specific botanical interest. The area indicates its extent, the designation date its protection history, and the squill the presence of this plant.
The Třebíč Circuit passes through Kožichovice. From the Hluboček signpost, the route follows the western boundary of the municipality to Klučov. The information about the nature reserve covers its protected area and plant life; the route offers a different perspective for planning, namely a named route. If you are considering a hike, the signpost, municipal boundary and destination provide specific points of reference.
Spring and Local History
The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius is built above a spring. The spring is accessed from the southwest via a descending staircase with a stone wall. The building, spring and southwestern approach give this place a distinctive architectural and spatial character.
A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1791 stands in the village. Together with the memorials to Matyáš Žďárský, it offers another way to explore Kožichovice’s history: a precisely dated statue on the one hand, and the memory of a specific person on the other.
Matyáš Žďárský was born in 1856 in a mill in Kožichovice. A memorial plaque has commemorated him at house no. 40 since 1993. His significance in sports history also extends beyond this biographical connection to the village: the ski binding developed by Žďárský laid the foundations for alpine skiing. His birthplace, the memorial plaque and the ski binding offer different perspectives on the same person—from his connection to Kožichovice to his contribution to the history of skiing.
The “Běh Matyáše Žďárského” race is also named after him. It has been held every year in late September since 1993 under the auspices of Kožichovice and Třebíč. If the race is important to your travel plans, ask the municipality about the exact date in advance.
Markovka Reservoir
Markovka Reservoir covers 14 hectares and is used for recreation and fishing. Unlike the Hluboček Nature Reserve, specific leisure activities are identified here. The contrast can help you choose what interests you: on one side, a protected area and plant life; on the other, recreation and fishing.
