Senozaty combines a historically significant village centre with cycling routes that head south and north. The church complex, the “V Lázni” well and a rural farmstead on the village square provide tangible architectural points of reference for the village’s history. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can plan your trip around two interests: cycling or village architecture.

Cycling Routes and Route Selection

The pilgrimage cycling route from Prague to Křemešník is rated as moderately difficult. If you look for a stated difficulty level when choosing a route, this one provides clear guidance.

Cycling Route 161 passes through Senozaty and continues south via Křelovice to Želiv. Route 1211 runs north through the centre to Miletín, then continues via Kaliště to Světlá nad Sázavou. For a broad choice of direction, you can therefore choose between a southern continuation to Želiv and Route 1211, which initially heads north. Before setting out, check the current signage for Routes 161 and 1211.

Village Architecture and Local History

The Senozaty church complex includes a mortuary chapel, a stone perimeter wall, and south and west entrance gates. The rectory has a Baroque gate leading into the courtyard. While the wall and differently oriented entrances stand out at the church complex, the design of the courtyard gate is the focal point at the rectory.

The “V Lázni” well is a shallow stone well associated with former medieval baths. It is covered by a simple wooden shelter with a pitched roof. Local tradition has it that Bohuslav Balbín received treatment at the former baths in the 17th century. The well thus brings together a specific architectural feature and a historical story about the place.

A rural farmstead stands in the central area of the village square. It comprises a former inn, a residential building, an entrance gate, an agricultural building and a barn. The inn is just one part of the complex: residential and agricultural buildings also shape this multi-part farmstead. Together with the rectory and church complex, they provide a distinct focus for exploring Senozaty’s cultural history.

Location and Practical Information

The administrative area of Senozaty lies within Protection Zones I, II and III of the Švihov Reservoir on the Želivka. If you are planning water-based activities, check the boundaries of the protection zones in current official maps beforehand. This ensures that you take this feature of the administrative area into account when planning, without conflating it with the specific historic buildings in the village.

For your stay, you can first consider whether route selection or village architecture should be the main focus. The routes described differ in their direction and in the places named along the way; the historic buildings and the well offer a distinct cultural-history theme.
