In Třeštice, several distinct chapters of village history meet a landscape of slopes, fields and forests on the horizon. The wooden bell tower in the middle of the village square, the Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua and paths on the edge of the village offer different focuses for a stay: architectural history, religious monuments or outdoor activity. The cycling route and hiking trails can also be distinguished by their respective locations and markings.

Village Square and Architectural History

The wooden bell tower stands in the middle of the village square and dates from 1863. It is listed as an immovable cultural monument in the Central Register of Monuments. Its year of construction and location make it a clear reference point in the village’s history. A protected cross dating from 1796 also stands on the village square by the chapel.

The chapel is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua. It was built between 1937 and 1939 and consecrated on 2 July 1939. Its architecture is described as historicist and single-aisled; the building is oriented north–south. A prism-shaped tower is built into the south side. The dates of construction and consecration mark two distinct stages: the chapel took several years to build, and it was consecrated on the stated date.

A wooden house on the village square is also listed as an immovable cultural monument. It stands on a high masonry base and once housed a so-called Black Kitchen. Alongside the religious architecture, this brings a residential building with its own distinctive historical feature into view. A wayside shrine dating from 1858 was fully restored in 2008.

The unveiling of a statue of a Praga V3S, the legendary “vejtřasky,” is also part of the village’s history: it took place in Třeštice on 7 September 2013. This dated event adds a more recent chapter to the older buildings and monuments.

Cycling Route, Hiking Trails and Landscape

Cycling route 5123 runs through Třeštice between Sedlejov and Doupě. Blue- and green-marked hiking trails run along the northern edge of the cadastral area; check the current signage on site. These are two distinct points of reference for planning: the cycling route runs through the village, while the marked hiking trails lie along the northern edge of the cadastral area.

The landscape around Třeštice includes slopes and fields, with forests on the horizon. The Třešťský potok stream runs along the eastern edge of Třeštice; the Třeštický rybník pond lies south of the village on the same stream.

Plan Your Journey and Stay

A municipal description updated in 2022 mentions a bus stop directly in Třeštice and bus connections towards Telč and Mrákotín. Check current timetables before travelling so you can match your connection to your planned stay. As a destination, Třeštice offers above all a combination of local architectural history and rural surroundings; the cycling route and marked hiking trails each add their own character.

If you would like to focus on culture, the bell tower, chapel and monuments on the village square offer specific historical points of interest. If you would rather explore the surroundings, you can take the landscape description, the cycling route through Třeštice and the marked hiking trails into account when planning. This can help you decide whether the village’s architectural history or outdoor activity in the surrounding area will be the main focus of your stay.
