Borovná lies five kilometres southwest of Telč at the foot of Zdeňkov Hill. For your trip planning, two main themes stand out: the ponds and wetlands with their birdlife, and historical landmarks ranging from the Middle Ages to the chapel’s consecration in 2001. There are also routes with different details on length, stops and itinerary. You can therefore make nature, cycling and local history separate priorities for your stay.
Wetlands and Birdlife
U Borovné is a Natura 2000 site of Community Importance covering 18.1995 hectares. The protected area includes reed beds, wet meadows, damp willow scrub and pond habitats. This rich complex of ponds and wetlands protects a significant population of the fire-bellied toad.
The pond landscape near Borovná also provides a habitat for around two dozen endangered bird species. They breed there, forage or stop over during migration. Examples include the osprey, kingfisher and black stork. The area therefore supports breeding and foraging as well as stopovers during migration; the pond landscape serves more than one purpose for these species.
Routes with Different Points of Reference
The Lipky nature trail is about five kilometres long and has ten stops, including the Borovná Forest Society. The stops give the trail a clear structure. Check the route details before your trip.
Cycle Route 5261 runs from Dobrá Voda to Borovná and then continues to Telč. The order of the places is key for your planning: Borovná lies on the described route between Dobrá Voda and Telč. Check the cycle route conditions seasonally.
Another route is 17 kilometres long and runs from Telč via Stará Borovná and Borovná, as well as other places, before returning to Telč. The routes differ in their points of reference: for Lipky, the length and number of stops are the main details; for Route 5261, it is the sequence of places; and for the 17-kilometre route, the length and return to Telč. This lets you compare the routes according to whether the itinerary, number of stops or stated total length matters most for your planning. Check the current route before your trip.
Local History and Seasonal Planning
Borovná was first mentioned in written records in the mid-14th century. In 1721, the village became permanently connected with Telč. This is a different historical reference point from the first mention: the year marks the permanent connection with Telč. The new chapel in Borovná was consecrated to the Visitation of the Virgin Mary on 9 September 2001. The dates therefore span the medieval mention, the connection with Telč and the chapel’s consecration.
For seasonal planning, the Koryto self-service bar is also worth noting: at holiday home No. 15 in Borovná, it serves refreshments from spring to autumn. Availability may change; check what is on offer before your trip.
