When deciding where to travel, Uhelná Příbram offers two distinct points of interest: the history of charcoal burning and a blue-marked hiking trail to Zkamenělá řeka. The church and rectory add to the picture of the town’s architectural history. You can therefore plan your stay around local history, a hike or an event. If you are interested in attending an event, check the latest dates before your trip.

Charcoal burning and the town’s historical background

The charcoal kiln model recalls the local production of charcoal and its historical deliveries to smelters and the mint in Kutná Hora. The model was ceremonially unveiled in October 2014. It brings a specific chapter of the town’s history to life without requiring a lengthy account of the development of charcoal burning.

In the mid-13th century, charcoal burning flourished in Uhelná Příbram and its surroundings. Another historical reference is the Liběcká Stezka, which ran through Uhelná Příbram. Taken together, these provide two distinct points of connection: the production and delivery of charcoal, and a historical route through the town. Those interested in regional history can explore these topics alongside the town’s later architectural history.

The church and rectory: several building phases

The Church of St Michael the Archangel stands on the northern edge of Uhelná Příbram, below Strážný vrch. Its Baroque appearance dates from the late 18th century, and it stands on the site of an original Gothic building. Part of the Gothic reconstruction dates from the third quarter of the 14th century. The building’s history therefore includes a Gothic phase and its later Baroque appearance.

The late Baroque rectory of Uhelná Příbram, dating from 1762, stands near the church. It was created by remodelling an older, single-storey rectory dating from 1383. The two buildings offer different historical reference points for a cultural-history visit: the church’s history reaches back to a Gothic building, while the rectory’s sequence of alterations can be understood through the recorded dates.

Hiking trail to Zkamenělá řeka

A blue-marked hiking trail leads from Uhelná Příbram to Zkamenělá řeka. The Kobylí hlava rock formation lies along the route in the vicinity of the town. This makes the hike a separate option alongside visits to the historic buildings. If you plan to follow the trail, check the route markers locally before setting off. Your choice between a hike and the town’s history can therefore depend on which interests you most during your stay.

Events and getting there

The Sokolský běh republiky in Uhelná Příbram includes a 4.5 km cross-country/trail route. The editions held in 2023, 2024 and 2025 each took place in October. If you would like to include the race in your travel plans, check the details of the current edition in advance; the past dates listed here do not establish a future date.

The Sokolovna hosts annual Sokol, fire brigade and hunting club balls, children’s events and community gatherings. Check the latest dates before planning your stay around an event. The building’s own history also offers a point of reference: construction of the Sokolovna began on 31 August 1936, and its ceremonial opening took place on 14 July 1938.
